-rep those who are disruptive, immature, hateful or general dime-a-dozen trolls. Also people who insult or harass other users without provocation.I'd say this is better than Jebus' "break the rules" negging.
Because being hateful and/or a troll isn't breaking the rules?
Because being immature and disruptive isn't against the rules. I also like the part where it implies that insults that were deserved don't deserve a -rep.

I also like the part where it implies that insults that were deserved don't deserve a -rep.I agree with this, but being immature is one thing, but being disruptive is against the rules or of any forum decorum, and there are many ways to be disruptive, e.g. trolling, flaming, incessant spamming.
Like many others, I liked it when rep was gone, but since it's back, I've learned to let rep go. I think everyone should do the same, and use it once in a blue moon. In fact, I just got -repped the other day. Why? Probably because I insulted someone's dumb post that had nothing to the with the topic. Do I care? Not really. Shit like that ends up getting straightened out sooner or later.

ehm.....how do you rep?I don't see a button for that......
You need 15 posts before you can +/- rep someone. Might want to check out the Rules and FAQS for more info.

On the original topic, leave it be. Much because you can dish it out anywhere, rep remains a rough guide as to standing within the community; as well as reflecting so positively on contributors, good rep stops people from taking individuals' style of writing (e.g. lollollol12, Rbz - not to lump you together exactly) too seriously or to heart, and similarly serves as an indicator of stead converse to post count and Elite/Elder titles by extension. Let people whine about the odd minus rep if they want to; unless they are the kind of character who warrants it regularly, one or two will have no bearing on them or anyone else.

Bumped with more evidence:

Face it, the "No Repping the same user every day" system doesn't work at all.

I once made a suggestion about "rep cycles" in the past, but maybe it was considered to complex.
the original suggestion was
"You need to +/- rep 5/10 a user before repping the same user again"
Just 1 user cycle isn't enough.
Edit: got it backwards lol XD

I'm sure some people will see this as bitching about rep, but just ignore them. This is information worth knowing. (Though I'd suggest PMing Jacob about someone obviously seeking you out. It is against the rules to continually derep someone for no reason, right?)
About your suggestion, Kaimax, what does that mean exactly, "+/- rep 5/10 a user"? Would that be having to give rep to five other people before being able to go back to the same person?
Seeing something like this, it's clear that something should be done. Users that abuse the system could be banned, or simply lose their rep privileges (if it's possible to keep just individuals from using rep and not groups), but that wouldn't really fix the problem. Nothing would stop other users from doing it in the future. Maybe something as simple as "no repping (positive or negative) the same person twice in the same week." So, once you rep someone, you cannot rep them again for 168 hours (7 days). And if you tried to rep them, you'd get a notice that says how long you have until you can rep them again.

Yes, basically
You must rep 5 or 10 (depends) users, before you can rep the same person again. :D

Received the fifth -Rep today. My hater was a bit late because FAKKU was down for some time yesterday. Should have posted this one instead. Also in IB (surprise, surprise).

Oh, and let me tell you guys something interesting. Before I became a FAKKU Elder, I've never posted in IB because I wanted to get to Elder as fast as I can. And guess what? I've never gotten -Repped for my entire first 7 months here. I started posting in IB when I became an Elder. I received my first -Rep soon after in IB. Then the second, then the third, then the fourth...so yeah. Have a think about that.
We all know I'm not a person who particularly care about rep all that much. Instead of getting Jake to put effort into fixing my reputation, I think it's more worthwhile to just get rid of Rep entirely in IB, which was what I said some time ago. Surely it's easier to just get rid of the entire Rep system in a subforum instead of fixing this stuff for each individual user. I mean, I'm not the only person getting -Rep bombed. If Jake fixes it for me, then he will be obligated to do it for others too.
All this complexity can be avoided if we just get rid of the Rep system once and for all in IB.
But that takes too long. xD

Not really practica,l since I also got some haters a month ago that -rep like 3 or 4 times in my own favorite section the Vn upload and discussions.

well, that will really annoy "serial haters", it won't effect too much on the normal users that rep normally.

I can understand completely getting rid of rep in IB. Because it's a spam forum, nothing that great really comes out of it. It's much better if a person gets positive rep from saying something constructive or uploading something than if they link to a video or copy-paste something from a different site. And it would no doubt decrease the unneeded negative reps given, but it still wouldn't solve the problem. If someone wants to keep negative repping a person, they're going to keep doing it, regardless of where the posts are. Even if you stopped posting in IB entirely, it might continue, if the person has that much of a hard-on for derepping you.
I really have to agree that something should be done. If we ignore the problems by saying that rep doesn't matter, then why not just get rid of it altogether? And if we say that rep does matter, in some sense, measures must be taken to keep it from being misused the way it currently is.

I think rep's a bit odd simply because you have a genuine reputation on the forums anyway, regardless of the rep number. People will have an opinion of you regardless of the rep system. If everyone thinks you're cool, funny or a great contributor, they're not going to not think that just because you have low rep, and if they think you're a towering pile of shit, the fact you have high rep won't change their mind.
One thing I noticed is I get more rep more often from posts in Random/IB than I did by helping people out in the Request section. On the other hand, even when I had about 90 rep or so, hardly anyone in Random/IB knew who I was since I never went in there. So in the first case we see an issue in that the requests in the Request section are usually made by new users and so 90% of helpful posts can't actually be repped anyway. In the second case we see how you can have a relatively high rep but still have no actual reputation at all.

I frankly keep on getting many negative reputations for no reason at all. I am most confident that all my posts are non-offending non so ever. yet from time to time I would get a negative reputation for no reason at all. does anyone think that the problem does not only exist in IB and Random?

I disregard this "Repuatation System" you have here on Fakku (I'm new).
As of this post, I have -1 for some reason although never having offended anyone or using foul language. I believe it was because I had the upperhand in a debate in "Serious Discussion." Just proof that opinions are disagreeable, which is how most things go during conversations and sometimes people take opinions offensively since it disagrees with their own.
The reason it wouldn't matter and why I don't care what my rep or others' rep says is because the way in which people type, react, and present their statements is what reflects who they are at the moment and situation. It'd be kind of shallow to judge people based on reputation, but that's my opinion. This is why I even disregard the statuses as well.
In terms of rep, I don't see people higher than others nor lower, that would be jumping to conclusions without reason or experience. Although pretty shallow, If using the rep system causes someone to believe they can "demean" you in any way and helps them sleep at night, that's up to them.
If there are people who actually believe having "good rep" puts them a brighter light whatsoever, that's up to them as well, if it helps you sleep at night.
Just know that all I see around me are fellow Fakku users. That's just me and how I see it though.
