giving negative or positive reputation should be a more elaborate process. since it tends to have serious gravity on FAKKU. It shouldn't come down to pushing a + or a - button.

Well, I really don't quite know what my reputation is, but it must be really freaking low. I must admit, I'm incredibly lazy, even when it comes to advancing the noble cause of hentai.
But whatever the decision ends up to be, I won't be the one to complain - wonderful site we all have here, so it's always a nifty feature to have something to recognize the effort of users who actively contribute.

If you're going to get rid of negative rep then I also suggest scrapping the system in its entirety. It all sounds so high school. Those who are post a lot and get along get the "popular" label while those who have a different opinion or follow the beat of a differnt drum get the "loser" label.

well like alot of the people here, if it does alot of harm, then just take it off. and reset the rep's of people with "-111111" reps and whatever

Sounds good to me. Not to compain, but I have no idea why I have negative rep. I only post at MoteMote battle and just quick non-offensive jokes.
(There was that deal with Negimaru 5 scans, but it was just a waste of time and no one got hurt)

Well while I would like to see -rep go away, I just want to say that I really like the rep system and I think it is a good way to encourage people to contribute in a positive manner. So I definently don't want to see it go away, just tweaked to make it more focused on postive renforcement, rather than tearing people down.

No, I think that would be an awful idea honestly.
People who post awful or repetitive junk need to be notified somehow.
Also if you take away -rep people can just make other accounts and rep themselves and continue posting useless junk.
Trust me, some people will also be major jack asses every chance they get if they can't be -repped.
You should have to leave a reason for -repping though. I've seen other forums with this....

As all of you have read, this whole neg. system to me seems like a bullshit system anywho.
My personal opinion... if you don't get rid of it... is that the only ones who should distribute neg is those who have paid their dues, been here and FULLY contributed to making this site great. whether it's the FAKKU Elders... maybe Elites that can do it.. i have no clue.
Jacob, honestly, I'm behind whatever you decide 100%.

I agree, I never saw the point in negative reputation unless a person would want that but with all the features reputation does now it sorta defeats the purpose of being "that guy with -xx reputation" :o
BUT it also shows who can not be trusted with posting links etc.

How about only giving negreps for specific posts?
For example, lets take forum goers A and B.
B posts something stupid. A decides to give B negative rep. However, when he does, he has to give the rep on the specific post he didn't like. Sort of "Neg rep this person for this post", instead of a blanket neg rep, along with a sign on top of the post "This poster was was negrepped for this post".
That way, it can be seen if a person was neg repped for simply disagreeing with somebody, as opposed to being an ass. If there's somebody negrepping just out of spite, it can easily be seen. It will also prevent a person from getting several neg reps from a single thing he said -- essentially, once a person has been negrepped for a post, he can't be negrepped again for that post.

can we not just have a system where we can report things we believe deserve a negative rep and admins (possibly more than just jacob and raze) can look over the situation? If it's too much work for a few people you should allow more than the few admins to have the ability; people you trust. It just seems having any user with more than 15 rep being the ones to decide who should be given negative rep arbitrarily seems short sighted, no offense of course.

Lots of good ideas here. I think if the system were to change, it should be changed to something like this.
Yeah, some of the aforementioned posts cover all sorts of ways of de-repping. But the best would be a human moderated system with a heavy penalty behind hitting a de-rep button. When you press it, you must give a reason and it will then be submitted to another system. Someone will then clear the de-reputation as legitimate. Also it stops the person from de-repping and + repping for around 48-72 hours. Quite like the never used report post button.

Sincerely, Eshi thinks that peoples just need bite their tongue when they have an immature impulse to give negatives. Thinks mostly, peoples needs get off their high ends et just ignore those they don't think highly of... Mewhs!

Hmmm. I would suggest that you keep the subtraction feature, but limit it to zero. This would allow you to remove access to the other features, and without having to ban or manually edit someone's profile.Either that or limit it to ever "10" (10,20,30)
Scenario: You have 10 rep and wish to upload a flash game, but then get knocked down to 9 so you can't do it anymore.
Could be like checkpoints.
That's exactly what I was going to suggest. Losing rep is fine but like I said in the topic that likely sparked this decision, losing rep doesn't matter unless it fucks you up for a certain site feature that requires it.
And if you're going to get rid of negative rep then I suggest scrapping the system in its entirety. There is absolutely no point in a system that is supposed to be a reflection of what the community thinks of you but is incapable of telling you that the community thinks you suck. Yes, lots of the negative rep is given to people that come in and beg or say stupid shit and then never come around again, but if someone that is well known on the site says something dumb or offensive you should be able to de-rep them.
If people want a system that only reflects positively on them then I suggest an award system. If the mods deem you fit for recognition, then you get a little icon to go where your rep would have been. To involve the community at large, allow people to give an invisible sort of rep that builds up but can't be seen by anyone other than mods/admins. Once it reaches a certain number (possibly under a time limit) then that person gets a certain award. That way we have a relatively accurate system that gets rids of bitching by people that are so afraid of having a slightly lower numerical value that does nothing significant.
I think blind assassin nailed it. Although it's true that some people will negative rep for stupid reasons, what's the point in a rep system if you can't go both ways? If you can give rep for a good post, then you should also be able to remove rep for a bad one. An invisible rep system doesn't sound bad, though I think what we have now is fine as well.

Like others before me, I would prefer the reputation to be removed. According to what I have seen so far, both on Fakku and other forums, having a reputation system may be another outlet for what they call "stroking the e-penis".
Of course, some members are definitely worthy of recognition in their contributions to the site, sharing out of goodwill, without any care for what others think of them. On the other hand, there may be some who posts and share because they want a higher reputation.
On the topic of negative reputation, it can also be attributed to the mentality of seniority or belonging to the higher post count group. Being in the same situation myself on previous occasion, some new members may get the nerves of others by spamming, attracting attention to themselves, etc. In truth, they only want to be recognised as a member of the community. However, a negative reputation system could discourage them from further activities.
