Have fun. One day that will be me out there, shopping, picture-taking, and eating. Just not getting laid. 3D women are overrated. (I'll still try to find a way to use the sex vocabulary, though)

Be careful with the subject of sex in Japan. Though it may be publicly exploited everywhere (posters/stores/etc), people do actually get in trouble with the police for certain things (buying from used panty-dispensing machines/etc 8P). Make sure you know what Tokyo police can detain you for if you're going to be in Tokyo for a while. They have a LOT of power over there. And we need you here at fakku ahhahha.
VISIT AKIHABARA: HOME OF HENTAI MANGA/DOUJINSHI! You'll find all sorts of shit in Comic Tora no Ana and its surrounding stores.
Btw, certain trains of the subway are WOMEN ONLY for a certain time (traffic hours), so make sure you go into the ones WITHOUT the hot pink women only signs during busy times.
Japan is loads of fun, English-incompetent (you'll see), and overstuffed with literally blow-your-mind cuteness of everything.
Oh yeah, prepare yourself for LOTS of beautiful (probably because they are well-groomed) girls, and amazing beautiful hair everywhere.
You're going to have a blast.
Do not eat at Otaru (sushi place).
Eat at Yoshinoya
Eat at Coco's
If the sushi joint has a rotten peach looking thing on a plate that goes along the conveyor belt, don't eat it.
If you see horse sushi, don't eat it.
Eat at Bikkuri Donkey
Yoshinoya is alright, but since you're in Japan, ENJOY QUALITY FOOD. Traditional sushi and tempura are very expensive (can range from 6000 yen and up). You can get everyday sushi/tempura at many places for cheaper.
Don't eat dolphin meat unless you're very curious :(
BIG TIP: Tokyo central mainland is pretty expensive for most things. Travel little to the outskirts of Tokyo/smaller districts like shimokitazawa for cheaper hentai/anime/the like. All can be accessed via Tokyo metro lines.

I reread that and lol does it sound stupid. I meant for you to go into trains where you CAN grope women secretly. ;)
best of luck!

i know i'm not in the position to say this but how long are you going to be in tokyo?if you go to akiba at 29th may,at tora no ana, laox & softmap store, there's going to be a new release of haruhitan dvd and it cost about 5000 yen.if long enough to july, maybe you can line up in akiba for the premiere launch of psp game vocaloid:project diva.it's about 7000 yen and for limited releases are included with chibi hatsune miku figure.
besaid that, have fun in akiba and don't waste your money on crane games!the prizes are very tempting but if you suck at crane games, don't do it.if you're looking for akiba's specialty merchandise,in akiba there's laox and asobit kit city.you can buy for example:maid cookies, laughing man's jacket from ghost in the shell, official monster hunter shirt, etc.at youdobashi(tokyo dome),there's jump shop that sells jump manga merchandise like gintama bookmark etc.
sorry if i'm misspelled some words

Wow, going to Japan? Have fun, man. If you're going to be around Tokyo, try and find the "ROPE" burusera shop in Shibuya-definitely something unique you can tell people (or not) about when you come back home.

I use to live in Tachikawa for a couple years. I can give better locations to eat at, but most of them are far from the larger cities like Shinjuku, Shibuya, and such.
Close by to where Route 5 intersects with Route 5 (ya, don't ask me wtf is with their roads), there's a restaurant with very good fugu fish. It's a soup. It's almost 3000 yen for a small bowl.
Regardless of where you eat, you'll get quality food. I'd suggest the Shinjuku area for very good Korean. The Japanese food in the area wasn't too my liking, but I only ate at a few Japanese restaurants there out of the many.
All you can eat Yakiniku places are good. Akiba actually has some pretty good restaurants on the outskirts of the city too. When I say outskirts, I mean, the city that sits on the edge of the other city. You can't really tell when you left one city and go to another. No signs, borders, anything.
