Multiple people have expressed interest in getting translations for any words spoken during scenes as (optional?) subtitles. I'm just making this thread to collect everyone's thoughts for the developers to reference.
Personally I think it's kind of immersion breaking when most everything else is translated but you're suddenly served with something that isn't. Even though I have a rough idea of what's being said, it takes a little brainpower to piece it together. I've been calling it an "information blind spot". I think for the game to be fully localized, this should be added.

This. I may not need this, but i think it would feel weird if we have to get a translation mod for this issue. So i hope the devs will fix this soon after Honey Select is released.

Absolutely - it's kind of weird to have it omitted since the fan translations have already covered this.

That's a let down. Hope to see that this will be an update to the game. I also agree it should have been in the base game.

I would love to see this, my broken japanese that I (barely) learned from anime can only take me so far.

It's understandable that no H subtitles are included -- since subtitles for the H scenes were not natively displayed in the JP Illusion version, it requires a Unity hook subtitle mod to actually work, and no external helper programs/hooks were included with the Fakku release.
The solution, of course, is to modify or recreate the subtitle hook for the Fakku version, and then amateur translators such as myself can get to work on doing the H-scene subtitles.
I mean, half the fun of this game is listening to stuff like your waifu comment on the other girl in 3P. (I've translated a few of those :)

I have seen a subtitle mod for this, but the dialogue is poorly translated. Either it was machine translated or the modder just put their own made up lines in. Would be nice to see a proper translation for the ero scenes

As mentioned previously in the thread, subtitles for these scenes were not part of the original Japanese release.
We are open to adding this to Honey Select Unlimited, but it would be a huge investment to add a whole new feature to the game. That said, it is possible, but we'd have to sell a lot of copies to cover the cost of additional development work. And right now we're focused on getting out the DLC's and bug fixing.
So if you want this to happen, get out there and spread the word about Honey Select Unlimited. Do your best to get people to try out the demo and hopefully buy the game!

I'm a bit disappointed by the lack of H scene subs as well. I know it is a lot of work because I spent a lot of time cleaning up the subs from the JP version and adding missing bits but without them this version is inferior to the JP in a fairly major way. For me (and probably many others) the major reason to dump the JP version and buy this one is a decent full translation. If we have to hack the old sub translations in buying the FAKKU version seems less compelling and more so since this version doesn't have the DLC yet.
Not regretting my pre-order as I really want to support your efforts but I'm hoping this can be added later as I can imagine a lot of people not purchasing based on this alone which would be a shame for both FAKKU and Illusion.

I hear you, and this is a feature I am looking into a lot. If it happens it'll probably come after we finish the DLCs.

Perhaps I'm looking a little too forward, but is it possible to request the in-scene subs to illusion for upcoming games? I'm sure it'll be a lot easier for you guys to translate it if it's already added in as a feature, and I'm under the assumption of course that this isn't the only game from them that will be available to us. I totally understand the difficulty behind adding in the feature when it didn't exist in the first place, and I do hope you guys get to it at some point.

I'm just happy to hear that you are also working on the DLCs for this! I can wait on subtitles as long as I have the DLC!

The games are built on Unity IIRC? Sod it, I done some Unity game hacking before I might actually try my hand at some sort of rough in game version of this. Only issue is, I don't speak a lick of Japanese (would love to learn, but don't have the time unfortunately!) So would probably need to open translations out to the public.
Is that crazy? Is it worth spending a bit of time looking into this?
Edit: Yep, looks like it is Unity. Might be my project for a while, god knows how long it could take. Could be a while though.

You'd be duplicating a lot of work that's already been done. The Unity subtitle hook and dumped dialogue for the JP version is available. It is always active when run, which means it covers both the main text and the H-scene text. I'd say start from there.
Translations are the least of the challenge. Other than the sheer amount of dialogue that needs translations (look at the HF dialogue files, there are thousands of lines, most poorly or not translated), it's a fairly mechanical process, just time consuming. I can do a hundred or more in an hour, depending on how esoteric the dialogue gets (or if it's "slurred" dialogue, god).
