my favorite part about this thread is the fact that they moved from SD to IB.

The music of this generation is pretty so so.

Depends on where you look, and what you mean by this generation, of course. A lot of the bands I listen to these days are kind of new, yet they're not mainstream. Some sell through only BandCamp.

Skrillex is the best band ever created since Nickelback and RadioHead

70's had Disco.
10's have Dubstep.

Ehh there some pretty good stuff but most is crap.

Whatever you think dubstep is, it isn't that, and there are so many genres and crossovers now that it doesn't even matter.

Yeah it's kind of insulting. He is so good so they call it brostep.

I don't even subscribe to the idea of brostep, as inevitably hipster as that sounds. It's a bullshit term which attempts to explain away the massive success of a particular brand of EDM, like it's the cancer that's killing true dubstep.

tl;dr they have fuck all to do with each other, what he makes is more of an evolution of traditional club and house music than anything. It's not that bad, mood dependent, but it is fucking samey.

So like Dubstep is just Techno with an emphasis on bass?

I was implying that I sounded hipster talking about it. If anything the original dubstep scene is pretty hipster now, considering that a lot of the old stuff has such simple, boring composition.

I imagine most people who now say they prefer 'proper dubstep' have retroactively decided they like it because it's cool to.

Not exactly, I tend to describe it sounding like The Gerogerigegege during their 'noise x frantic' stage but with more structure as the noise actually produces some sort of melody.
