Carefully use the shaving razor and make sure everything is wet enough. It´s easy to make small cuts, but the result is nice. =P

You only have to put a lot of trouble it in once. You can always do it in two days if one day doesn´t work. Of course you should trim it down with scissors or something first. Razor blades can get clogged too and that´s a mess to clean up.
Once it´s completely shaven down, it´s just a matter of maintaining it, which I just do once a week. Not that hard.
