As much as I'd love to get married, I probably won't, for a multitude of reasons,of which a bitch ain't one. but mainly cause I have more freedom, and love probably won't last forever for me. :\

Rofl, I think that exact same thing; it's almost my innate fear that irony will choose to strike the moment I actually step through that marriage threshold. I have been proposed to on three separate occasions. I said yes to one and it went swell... up until a certain point. I contemplate re-accepting the engagement on new terms, but the more I think about it, the less it makes sense. I can stay committed without marriage, so I don't understand its use.

I think it's basically just reassuring our partner that you won't do anything bad.
