If for some reason you aren't able to gift me over steam, League of Legends RP or just Steam card would be fine

Quite a nice (and a rather expensive) present nonetheless.

Well, even though Christmas has long past, I'll just necro this with a little rant anyway.
So about 6 years ago, I started this secret santa thing for many reasons.
The first being that I really, really like Christmas. Now, while it may be that Christmas is now heavily commercialized and we're all sitting on our front pourches, being grouchy about now and how everything was so much better "back in the day" when we were kids, I still believed that there's something magical about the holiday season.
For a lot, it was about having vacation and the free time to be able to spend time with family. For some, it was an excuse of being able to give something to someone for the sake of, well, giving something to someone and I think that's special. It's even moreso between strangers.
Okay, so maybe not all of you had strangers, but I digress. When I first made this, I really, really wanted the secret santas to be able to dedicate some crafting time for their receivers.
For one, it's cheaper on the santas, so they wouldn't have to worry about money to buy some shiny gift online for a stranger. It's also why I had people state their likes and preference, to give hints to their personalities, and even have them talk to each other in the chat to maybe get to know each other a bit better even as strangers. Or, I mean, if you got your friend, you could just surprise him with something dumb and fun.
With the inclusion of steam IDs as "things to know" about yourself when having the wonders of what your secret santa will give you, I'm just afraid that the receivers are just getting into it to "possibly get a steam game" instead of really wondering what kind of fun stuff their santa is gonna make dedicated to them. Don't take my word for it, it's really just IMO. But having steam games in there kinda makes me feel uneasy. I saw some of the gifts though, and they were very lovely. And who knows, I may have just become a Grinch because times have changed.
However you may feel and however things have changed, I just hope that you guys will do the best you guys can do, and not just for Christmas either.
TL;DR
Steam games for SS gifts makes me feel uneasy IMO

I've always seen self-made gifts as the better choice here as well, but this does give another option for those who can't come up with a better idea or just find themselves not having the time.
I usually make signatures as my SS gifts, have added an avatar once as well, but I did take the Steam option last year. Making a signature for Tsamari who makes his own and had a nicely customized table set up for his signature did just not seem like a good idea for a gift that the recipient would actually have any use for. :D
