Fakku sub team is recruiting

As of now the current team stands as this. This is assuming bob64 and Raze are done for good.

Sindalf - Timer/bad typesetter
Malakith - typesetter
Waar - editor
Elfen Lied - dvd buyer

We are in current need of back up staff for all above positions except editor and we are in desperate need of translators and encoders.

I'd be willing to lend my bandwidth to seed a torrent if you need it, pretty much all i can offer with my absolute lack of knowledge about the Japanese languange

I'd also take up a position but my japanese is shit, and I'm a mac user, and since I'm low on cash, trans and dvd buyer fall out of the category, leaves me with typesetter and checker or smth?
I still gotta find a program that encodes into mkv, imovie only converts into h.264 .m4v
I think I can help well with raw's just ask me and I'll find it within the next 12hours, probs then again are to get them to the next person, meaning they might as well just download it,
I used to have my own little fan scanning but that's over since a long time so I know how to do typesetter ah well..

first...hooray fucking subbing fucking everything.
second...it seems you arent getting any luck with anything either than translators...which i wish i could..but cant do...

now.i have worked with subs for my college school projects mostly, but i only use windows movie-maker..i don't know what u guys use.IF i can use the above program then im willing to help. but im not familiar with the terms though i may have done them before.

the thing is i am not acquainted to irc.( but again i can learn)
and i'm going to graduate in 2 months..take the board in 5 months. and may or may not land a job soon...so im not sure if you start subbing that ill have a busy life (employed)...or if im jobless( GOD NO!!!) and have lots of free time to help.
but i understand u are just making a list so just in case contact me.

Well, although I have nothing to do with FAKKU subs, I can at least answer some of those questions for you. (if this were /a/ I would assume you're trolling, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt).

You won't get very far with WMM. actually, you'll probably get nowhere. If you want to take any kind of video editing/encoding etc. seriously, you will have to settle for another program. For video editing itself I recommend using Premiere and After Effects. These are admittedly a bit hard to get into, another program that is a bit easier to use is Sony Vegas. For self-made effects and graphics, Photoshop is the Software of choice.
Note that you won't need any of these for fansubbing.

Yes, a timer times the subtitles. Most people use a program called Aegisub to do that. I suggest you read this. It also explains what snap to scene and lead-in/-out mean.

A Typesetter edits the video so that text like signs etc. (i.e. any added text that is not subtitle) looks like it's part of the video. You might be required to choose a fitting font or make one yourself, but there are so many out there that the latter should not be necessary. Using fonts you dl'ed from the net is as easy as pasting files into a folder.
I guess a typesetter would be the one to make the Karaoke, but Sindalf said that FAKKU subs won't be doing any of that.


Softsub vs Hardsub

Hardsubs means that the subtitles are rendered into the video. Basically, every frame gets modified so that the text is added. After this process, the subs and the video are inseparable. You can't turn the subtitles on/off.
Nowadays, Softsubs are the preferred option. Basically, the subtitles and the video are in separate files in the same container (e.g. mkv) and get played simultaneously. This allows you to have more than one set of subtitles or to turn them on and off at will. You also don't have to re-encode the videos if you release a v2 or something (which would be a pain in the ass).

For a start, I very seriously doubt you "unconsciously" know how to do this. Basically, it involves transferring the video from a DVD/TV-stream to a format that can be viewed on a Computer. I won't get into the details (because that would take far to long), but you would have to understand things like Progressive vs. Interlaced, Codecs (mainly x264/AVC and Divx in this context. And MPEG-2, cause thats what the source files will be in), Pixel Aspect Ratio, Anamorphic Footage, (variable) Framerates, NTSC vs PAL (vs NTSC Film) and loads of other technical stuff. You also would have to be acquainted with a number of programs, the most important of which is probably AviSynth.
You would then be expected to transfer a .vob/.ts/whatever to an AVC/AAC or DivX/MP3 encoded file while cleaning up the footage (deblocking, deringing, removing noise etc) and muxing it with the subtitles

1. You use {spoil}text{spoil} (replace the "{" and "}" with "[" and "]"); or you click the white box above your text window when typing a reply.
2. Once you have a number of posts, you can +/- rep a person. They can do the same to you.

Looks like you're having some trouble finding people for the encoding job. I guess I could help out, I don't have that much time, but luckily most of the time needed will be spent watching my 4 trusty cores do their job :) It's also been a pretty long time since I've done any group work, or any serious encoding at all for that matter. Let's see if I can pass the test!

Hey interesting, currently i got a lot of free time ^^ I could join in, as editor or translator or maybe translator checker.. I don't know that much about complicated Japanese like they used in To Aru Kagaku no Railgun but then simple and basic Japanese is fine with me. BTW what anime or H-anime?

wohoo.. i wish i can help in this project..
i hav experience in using encoding tools.. and aegisub..
but my mirc just won't connect to the server.. so, thats mean a no for me..
unless i fix that, maybe i can help out..

Fakku makes a nice sum off of ad revenue. Doesn't seem fair translators wouldn't get paid, since the subbed hentai would bring in a shit-ton audience. Hm.
