Sup world, it's Sindalf the leader of the fakku video translation team and once again we are looking for Japanese to English translators in order to get some content out in a timely manor. We have been in hibernation for the past few months due to life and wish to make our grand return in mid May. There isn't much to say about translating in particular. People like to make fansubbing complicated when its easy to simplify it as "just do it". This is the current test. Put the translation in a text document and toss it to me via PM or IRC (irc.rizon.net). I would much prefer IRC however. The sooner the better. I'll get back to you when someone grades it. We do pay our translators 20usd per release since people can't seem to be motivated otherwise. We are not looking for anything else unless you are somehow the richest man on earth and can provide us with DVD/BD iso. Why Japan charges so much for porn will forever be a mystery. ok now for bitching, moaning, complaining, and blogging. You can't have a post by me without pointless blogging. So I'm sure some of you are thinking "Hey weren't you looking for translators before you went into hibernation?" Yes we were and I gave the test out to about ten different people but here is the fun part. Not a single person returned the test. What bugs me even more so is that some people talked with me and said it would be done by xxxx date and then I never heard from them again. It just urks me when someone says they are going to do something and then doesn't do it. Yes the test is stupid hard and there is a good chance no one can complete it perfectly. That isn't the point. I cared more about someone attempting it and give it a good try and hoping that it came out not too bad. I cared about effort, which many people in the current fansubbing community lack. I guess that's pretty hard to expect from people. As for the current/ex/whatever staff I have been busy with School but should have a lot of time free up during the Summer. Wintereise was very busy with University but should be able to come back although he doesn't know if he is willing to. I have not heard a word out of fnord in like months even though he is on irc. Vale is too busy translating anime and trying not to be a bum. Fakku has not had an original translator, someone who is brand new to the fansubbing scene, since ACF which was back in 2010. Always had to rely upon those who came in through anime fansubbing through money incentives. It's not something I like doing since I feel the community really needs some new blood. I still think ACF is still one of the best translators I have ever worked with. Man went from being one of the worst, almost had to v5 one of his scripts, to one of the most creative and clean translators ever. And I feel that is because he made a conscious effort to better himself. Definitely in my top 3 and I will miss him. Well that's enough of my ranting. Had to get that off my chest. Point is that we need some new translators so I hope someone in the community steps up. We can't have nice things in life otherwise. I look forward to hearing from you!

at this point it ain't fansubbing anymore... in very many levels...
so JLPT4+fabulous TL scripts are expected... or... LOL.

Something like this is the reason i started 2 learn japanese in highschool, 3 years of classes later with a horrible teacher i got out barely remembering the some of the most basic phrases. Maybe if i take in in university i can actually get a good education and start working for the community.

Studied abroad in Japan for a year and through that intensive course I actually had some whaling vocabulary already.

Watched the whole thing and I think I could translate 80% with confidence. Still had to visit Wikipedia and Google to figure out whale part names for when they're in the restaurant and when he goes on his factual tangents. The rest is easy enough. If it weren't such an obscure topic and I wasn't busy trying to graduate...

Semester ends in a few weeks though. Might try and get in touch again then.

if someone can teach people how to sub i would do it i have plenty of time on my hands and i understand deadlines since i have been in clubs and other school related activities that are time constrained to the max ass.

Well that stinks. I can't translate one bit but I can typeset/clean. I guess its pretty obvious that translators are much more sought after then cleaners.

started to learn japanese but they say im so quick im learning im practically a native... or something like that XD.
i would like to help you for free when ever i get the chance after i polish my skills, expend my vocab and... dismissed from the army in about 3 years... hope ill get alot non-combat-one-week-vacations and could help you then.

I'm a second year university student Japanese and I think I'll give this a try over the weekend. I've never translated for the fansubbing scene before but I'll do my best! In case I don't make it over the weekend, what is the deadline for this?

Sent you a PM but i didn't hear anything back yet so I figured I'd send you another message this way. I finished your test two days ago. I'd like to send in the translation. How do I submit it? It's typed up in a text document and ready to go.

I graduated with my BA in Japanese language and culture two years ago. I spent all last year living in Japan. My Japanese isn't perfect but it's good. The test was really hard but I gave it a lot of time and I hope that you can see that when you check over it.

I'm hoping this is still open, even though it's been quite a while. If not can I just send it in for a grade anyway? Been studying japanese for about 3 years. I usually translate RAWs and music for my own private use, so maybe I can succeed at this.

No promises about me completing the test though. I'll just send it in when/ if I do it.

I guess my only problem is I don't translate Japanese into English often since that's a very bad habit when studying "advanced" Japanese. Some things just don't carry over between languages well.

Your site is fantastic, bravo! On the subject of translations, though, some of the manga reads like Google Translate, whereas I feel any translation needs some creative input. Direct translations are often not fluid and can sound clumsy, though there are some good translations here, too.

Is another option just to ask people to create their own scripts, in English, based on the images? I've seen that done well. But, of course the artists' own copyright might be infringed. Not sure.

Anyhow, great site, and good luck with finding translators.

yo is this still open? can I still apply? I'm a second year japanese student and I also have experience professionally translating TV scripts from german to this other obscure european language
