Fuck RPGs That Demand Requirements For "True Ends"

Besides replay value, it's for the challenge. If the TRUE End is as easy as flipping your hand, It won't feel like a True End.
You need to work hard for the TRUE end, it's not label as true just because it's another ending. It's THE ending, that can be more canon than any route in any story.
you make a good point, man, but I somewhat disagree on the hard work stuff. I think that if the writer had an intended "true end", then that should be the first/only ending you get, otherwise why even have multiple endings when you're going to flat out say "this one is the important one"?
Plus, the "hard work" you put in should be fun if that's going to be the case. It can be hard. Very hard, sure. But it needs to be fun and, if it's a requirement, it needs to be plot-related.
If the True end is the First end that you'll automatically get then that just cheapens the quality and I vet most people won't even bother getting other routes.
I see what you mean, mate. What I should've said was what I meant, that instead of calling it the "true end" it should be just an alternate end ala Growlanser 4 and its 40+ endings. Or like in Song of Saya (VN), where there's no True End but Endings A, B, and C (don't think there's more than that).
If the writer makes an ending that they want to put forth as the "canon" ending to the point of calling it the True End (which implies all other endings are false, and it's silly if the game is self-contained with no planned sequels), then make it the first ending we get and let us work towards getting another one we like to think of as canon, like in Tsukihime (VN).
But I suppose you're right about that. Not many would go through all of the endings if the first ending they get is the one titled "True End".
the hard work = fun, is really subjective though.
Like in Kingdome Hearts, there are 2 ways of getting the "extended end"
1. Playing normal, and then collecting all of the things in the Journal
2. Playing in Proud mode, you just need to complete it
People who likes collecting will obviously like the 1st option, and for them, it's going to be easier
People who likes a challenge will definitely choose the 2nd option.
From this 2 you can see that there are different types of "hardwork".

That doesn't sound to my kind of liking either, but hell, at least it gives the option, and I give it credit for that. Agarest 2 demands you drudge through plotless, pointless fights and collection quests just to get actual denouement.
However, going by what others said, the fact that you can only get the true ending by enduring horrible monotony seems to be a series staple I was unaware of.
And yes, the collectibles should at least have something to do with the plot or background story.
Exactly, my main Fakkuza. If only more RPGs did that.
What games with multiple endings have you played that put you to work for the best ending (or what you'd consider the best) and actually did it right? I know a few, but they're mostly older titles.

And then there's Mass Effect 3 where the ending blows regardless of if its the good one or not.Clearly you didn't play any of its predecessors.
I'm sorry but the endings were for the whole of the franchise, not just for the final game.
Also, they made complete sense and I'm sorry but when you're practically comatose and consumed with the sole desire to finish your mission, you're not paying attention to how much time has passed or which one of your teammates went which direction so YES, IT IS COMPLETELY FEASIBLE THAT THEY GOT AWAY WHILE YOU'RE BUSY TALKING TO PUFF THE MAGIC STAR KID.
-huff-
On-Topic:
I know that feel bro.
Grinding makes me want to cry.
Also, I don't know what that game is. Never heard of it until today.

Doesn't change the fact that it's a bad game with bad endings.

Last I recall, the first two games had endings that made it feel like your choices made an impact on the story. Come the third game, all the endings are the same. I didn't play the series, but if this is the case, then yes, the game ended quite poorly.
And Mega, "grinding" and "true ends" are two separate game mechanics. Clannad had a wonderful true end and no grinding.

Well, all Agarest games have a true end. I actually like the True End stuff. Yea, there are some parts I didnt like in games but when you beat, I myself get a sense of accomplishment when I get the True end.

No, that's just the thing, mate: Agarest 2 literally forces you to do the unnessecary. By the end of the game, even on easy, you're still going to be Lv80+ no matter what you did because the boss fights shell out tons of xp.
There's no gameplay benefit since you're literally beating the same enemies you've already beaten several times before getting to-and-fro, there's no experience benefit since the repetition gets nauseating, and it has literally nothing to do with the plot.
Speaking of grinding and repetition: Fate/EXTRA. As far as I know it only has one end, but your experience throughout the game changes on how much you put into it. If you grind a lot to get stronger, your Servant actually comments about it and there's little side-bits on their opinions of you.
Use a lot of healing items? There's conversation(s) for that.
Carelessly reckless in battle? There's conversation(s) for that.
This is all optional and doesn't affect the plot(well, kind of, but not the ending), but it proves what I mean by giving the mundane a sense of value. If all of the bullshit side-quests in Agarest 2 ended with a conversation from the party then it would be well worth it to me. However, it's just arbitrary, hollow nonsense.
And since there's 200+ of these buggering things... Yeah. No. Fuck this game.
Besides, I know what you mean in general, not-Agarest 2 related terms. Even grinding on its own is fine to a degree. I became comfortable with grinding in SMT:Nocturne and the .Hack//G.U. trilogy. It's always fun to develop your abilities.

If you're keen on the series and don't own Agarest war 2 you can buy it off an ebay seller for cheap this week. However, I will say that were it not for the bullshit requirements, the story would be very good in my opinion.
