Gar Fest 2009

I forgot all about . . .
Captain Harlock (from Space Pirate Captain Harlock, also seen in Galaxy Express 999)

He is strong and tough and lives as his own man. Though he is a space pirate, he does not hijack cruisers or murder children. He fights for justice, in his own way, and is a truly respectable man.

Nice nomination though I don't know if some of the things he does would make him gar enough.

I wrote that because in the list it says "what anime is this from?" so unless TMS is being sarcastic and I didn't catch it, there is the answer.
But what about him is not gar? he never runs from his problems, stays true to his morals and ideals, and will do absolutely anything in order to defend them as well as enlightening the people around him.

No I completely agree its just that from what I've seen alot of people here are going on that gar means they have to be some kind of hardcore badass. And Onizuka just does somethings that isn't gar like that one time where he cried because he was gonna die from cancer lol but he didn't even have it. But whatever I looked at the list and I saw other guys that were even worse so I'm wrong, Onizuka is pretty cool especially when he goes all biker gangster.

imho, onizuka is gar. Though he does things that arent gar, thats when he isnt serious (people do shit when they're not serious). But in deep down in the very core, he really is gar. e.g. Though he looks up the skirts of school girls, he would never ever do anything to said schoolgirl even if she was drugged and begging for sex (would be a differeent story if they both have feelings for each other, and in a situation where hes not taking advantage of the girl).

Really? then what about Kanzaki who framed him for trying to do dirty things to her or that time when he got really drunk and was at some party with high school girls who also framed him for being perverted. If there was no black mailing and they were willing I think something would have happened lol.

Onizuka is definitely GAR.
I can't remember it, but it sounds like a gag scene to me.

Guys, arguing about whether or not a guy is GAR enough to be in this competition isn't productive. These are the nominations. If a guy isn't GAR, then he'll simply lose his match/battle/whatever we're calling it.
The point should be to name as many cool guys who might be GAR as possible, so that there are more matches and more fun.

But isn't arguing about it part of the fun as well lol guess it'll have to wait till later.

Don't remember? I can't remember what episode it was, but it was something where he wasn't feeling good so he went to the hospital. And he had like stickers or something on his back so when they took x-rays it showed white spots and it was like he had cancer. So he started grieving and stuff because he overheard the nurses talking about it and how he didn't have long to live. One scene that I won't forget was the scene where he almost took Fuyutsuki's virginity outside in front of that vending machine. But once the kids figured out that he didn't have cancer and found those 2 and told them the truth he got slapped lol and other things happened that I don't remember.

But remember when he actually died. He was like... I GOTTA EDUCATE THIS BASTID! WHO CARES IF ONE BLOW TO THE HEAD WILL KILL ME!
Then he went... and got hit in the head multiple times... And ended up beating up the guy... And then he died because he got beat in the head...
But then, the school was burning and the director needed to be saved and Nobuo went and told Onizuka and he came back to life, stole a bike, and saved that big breasted director person. Stuck wings on her back too. Lol.
Definately gar there.

How about you go read the manga to get a taste of how awesome Onizuka really is, the anime version of GTO is NOTHING compared to the manga.

Hmm im wondering if Garness in the abstract level can be nominated?
When i say garness in the abstract level, i meant that they do things that are not gar outwardly, but when you read between the lines and look at their true intention, you find them to be very gar and self-sacrificing (imho, most gar anyone can possibly become).
if so, i would nominate lelouch and Illidan.
Lelouch vi Brittania (Code Geass):
(mibuchiha has a good pic of lelouch in the post under mine)
If you have watched Code Geass to the very end, you will know what i mean. If you havent and do not mind reading spoilers:
Illidan Stormrage (Warcraft):
An often misunderstood hero (thanks to all the wikis and wowikis out there). Through the Warcraft storyline, and after reading the "War of the Ancients" triology, though illidan may have given off the impression that he betrayed his people over a minor jealousy problem. i have been convinced that illidan is ultimately a true hero.
During the first invasion of the burning legion 10,000 years prior to the events of Warcraft III, Illidan realized that the traditional means of the Night Elf isnt enough to push back the burning legion, and he chose to "betray" his people to gain the powers of sargeras (at the cost of his eyes and the trust of his people). And with this power, he played a VERY key role in sabotaging the Burning Legion and the highborne from within and banishing them back to where they came from. But despite his deeds and efforts, he has been imprisoned for 10,000 years as his reward for his sacrifices (which he is prepared for, as he knows of the results of what his deeds would befall him).
During the events of TFT, Ner'Zhul (the lich king) would be dead if maiev hadn't stopped illidan from using the eye of sargeras to obliterate the frozen throne. Illidan has sacrificed his entire life to serve his people in another way, and i think that requires a strong willpower (which sadly was broken after the events of TFT, which made him go mad, and resulted in what he is in WoW: TBC)
nominating these 2 if "abstract gar" could be included, if not ill just skip these 2 nominations.
