Genometrics Concert Hall ~Mrgrgr!!!~

We're finally here in Ostia. The whole trip Yeager was pretty quite and kept mostly to himself but now that we're here he can't wait to get off the ship and back home.

"Can't this thing go any faster?"
"Hold your horses, we're here already"

I hover near the house and use the horn on the ship to announce our arrival. Anne and Stella come out of the house and they look pretty happy.

"They they are! My sister Anne and my daughter Stella. I-I can't believe how long it's been!"

He's starting to tear up. Hey, I'm starting to think that maybe working in the mine to find him might not have been such a bad idea. I land the ship and deploy the ramp, but Yeager is so impatient that he nearly jumps off the ship.

"Whoa there, Yeager. You don't want to beak a leg." Heh.
He listens to me, but just barely. What followed was one of those classic scenes from those drama movies that we've all see.

"Daddy!" Cried Stella with tears in her eyes as she ran towards her father, who was also running towards her.
"Stella. Oh, my sweet sweet child, Stella" The catch each other and hug for a good while. It was kinda touching actually. I get off the ship too and head toward Anne, who just finished hugging her brother.
"Thank you." She says. It feels odd having someone thank me while being so happy. Usually I just receive thanks from my clients after I finish a mission, but those are just business-like thank yous. This one had emotion behind it. Then I notice something.

"Where's Desfel? Wasn't he with you guys?"
"He left not long ago. He had brought a little girl with him, but then he said something about a friend being in danger and he had to leave."
"Hmm, is that so? I should probably lend a hand if I can. Which direction did he head off too?"
"He headed off into the forest that way. He took the little girl with him and left a scroll with a spell in it to protect us from danger."

Hmm..for him to leave Stella and Anne behind like that, it must have been a very important matter. I hope he hasn't gotten himself in any danger.
"Alright, I'll go too."
"What? Already? But you just got here. Shouldn't you rest? But I guess this is important too. Ok, good luck and be careful."
Yeager and Stella went into the house so I doubt they even noticed me leave. That's for the best. I don't like situations with intense feelings. I get back into the ship and head off in the direction that Anne pointed me in.
"Desfel, what have you gotten yourself into?"

Where could Desfel have gone? I went in the direction that Anne told me to go, but it's such a large area of land and he could be anywhere. He could even be inside the forest and I wouldn't be able to notice him because of the trees. I might have to go back if I can't find anything. But wait, what's that? It looks like a large mansion and there seems to be smoke coming from it. Might be battle damage. Where there's battle damage, there is bound to be battlers and since I'm looking for a battler, well it makes sense to investigate.

I get off the ship after landing it near by and proceed slowly toward the damaged side of the mansion. There is a pretty big hole here. Either there was a large explosion here, or someone had a battle. I arm my rifle and a couple of Sun Marbles and go in through the hole.

Hmm...Somebody has walked out of here recently. It was more than one person and there seems to be evidence that someone or something was dragged. I keep moving forward and find a room with a small girl. I quickly run over to check on her.

She doesn't seem to have a pulse. Poor kid. I'll investigate more and then come back to bury the body. Off in the corner there is an amputated arm. I wonder who that belongs to? I don't see any other body in the room except for the little girl's and she has both her arms. There is a large hole in the wall. I look through it and see that the hole goes on through the wall in the next room and the wall after that. I climb through to find out what is on the other end.

I look through the final hole. There are two bodies here. They must have been blown through the walls here. I wonder how much strength it must have taken to do this? I climb into the hole and as I get closer to the bodies a cold chill runs down my spine.
"That's...!"
I run over to Desfel, recognizing his body. He's badly injured. He has a broken arm and his left arm has been severed. I guess I've found out who that arm back there belongs to. He's lost a lot of blood and his pulse is very weak. I check on the other girl. She's not as badly injured, but she's still pretty bad in her own right. Desfel's injuries could be fatal if I don't take care of them soon.

"Sigh, I know what I have to do, but I don't want to do it...but I guess I have too."

I run back to my ship as fast as I can. Once inside I look into my bad and pull out a small grey case and run back. I pick up his arm and head toward his location. I'm gonna need it.

I sit next to him and try to get him as straight as possible. I place his severed arm as close to the arm stump as I can. It needs to be close in order for it to heal correctly. I get the case, enter a password, and open it. Inside there are three syringes filled with a very expensive grey fluid. I inject it into Desfel's left arm. Within seconds, the desired effect takes place.

Magic in this world is great at healing, but that doesn't mean Mundus Vetus doesn't have a few tricks up it's sleeve. What I injected into him were Medical Nanites. They repair virtually any type of physical injury as long as the person isn't dead. It's a wonderful invention, but it is also insanely expensive. Only the richest of the rich can afford to buy them back in Mundus Vetus. How did I get my hands on some? One of my previous missions consisted of killing the CEO of a grand company and breaking into his vault to obtain codes for something that my client wanted. When I opened the vault I saw saw them in there along with the codes and helped myself. There were only three of them in there so I decided to use them only in the event that I was fatally injured. After this, I'll only have two left to use on myself.

Tiny grey finger-like things come out from Desfel's arm stump and grab a hold of the severed arm. They pull them together and the nanites get busy repairing nerves, veins, blood vessels, muscles, bone, etc. Meanwhile, some go into the blood stream and find any broken bones to fix. I can hear bones snapping into place here and there, with the biggest snap coming from his right arm. Any nanites not working in repair go into the blood stream and act as super efficient artificial blood cells. One nanite is as efficient as one hundred blood cells, so even a small amount make a big difference.

While the nanites do their work on Desfel, I'll take the lady next to him back to my ship to recover there. Unlike Desfel, she doesn't seem to need nanites so I'll just give her some basic first aid before I take her to a hospital. I set her down on my sofa, fix her up a bit, and go back to check on Desfel and bury the little girl's dead body. But as I'm going back I notice something is wrong...

"...Where's the little girl's bod-"

That's as far as I get when I feel a hard blow to the back of my head. I turn around and see the little girl who was supposed to be dead holding a rather large piece of wood. if she was trying to knock me out, it takes a lot more than that to do so. Still, it was a very good hit and my head feels like hell.

"God damn it! I'm not the enemy! I'm here to help" I hold the back of my head "Damn that hurts."

I explain who I am and after a bit of suspicion from her, we go to check on Desfel, who should be ok now even if he isn't conscious yet. For some people who use the nanites, it takes them anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours to wake up. Nanite repair is a pretty painful experience, so if the person isn't unconscious before using it, the nanites release a chemical to make the person unconscious. Of course, he was already out of it when I found him. So no need for the chemical. I hope he's doing fine. I want to know what happened here exactly.
