Is it crazy to learn japanese for manga, games, etc.

So many great games that I would love to port that never make it Amuricah. Plus being able to watch/read anime in jap is appealing. Just a little bi-curious, what you think. Worth it picking up japanese. Got free time on my hands any ways

Everyone here is- it only varies by degree from "Mild/Passing Interest", "Hardcore", and "Kawaii-chan no desu ka" or whatever the fuck shit you wanna call it.
Anyways, learning a new language always has its merits, as it will allow you to be functional in whatever community speaks that language.
Why do you think other countries such as China, Mexico, Egypt, etc. learn languages such as English, French, German, etc?

If that's an "arrow to the knee" joke, I will more than gladly make that predicament a reality.

I wanted to learn Japanese for the sake of learning a language as hard as my native one (Spanish), but school came up.

Most of us have heard/read Japanese enough to understand or at least follow this

That thread still scares me. Also, it can never hurt to know another language

Of course it is. I learned Japanese just for the sheer fact of being able to play and understand Japanese Bishojo games.

The reason I started learning Japanese was for anime and manga, but then I began to learn more about Japanese culture and the people and now I'm developing to make a career out of it by becoming a translator. I would say learn it for life as well as anime and manga, but it's your decision and if you want to learn it just for anime and manga as a personal pleasure then you should do so.
Learning another language allows you to become a lot more open minded and has a lot of benefits. It's also fun.
I've just been rearranging my room and had to move my Japanese resources.

I would learn Japanese, but I'm already Chinese. Chinese is a far superior language! Just an opinion though.

I didn't learn Mandarin, I learned English.

This is a purely subjective question, and it's apparent you're going to run along and do whatever regardless.
Ergo,
Useless IB thread is useless. = 3=;

People learn languages because they're interested in a facet of that culture, or intend to use it for work. Manga and games aren't any different, if it's enough of a motivation to actually get you to master a language, good on you. I find most of the people who get into mastering a new language will quit. Especially when they realize what kind of task they have ahead of them.
It takes drive to completely master a language, who gives a shit why you started it.
