was looking it up rught now. First real occurence of the way it is known now (cut meat in bread) 1836 n the osman empire.
in the 1970's they had their big boom here as a simple, but wholesome To-go meal

But you see, in my planet, almost every meals must go with rice... So no matter how good the kebab is, people would still pick something with rice or something that can be eaten with rice rather than a kebab.... It's one thing about my planet~

Won't be as great as eating the kebab itself tho. That's why the Doner Kebab here also have the rice + fried chickens (like McD) combo as one of their main selling menus... Instead of the kebabs....

Well it's something we always eat with everything... Veggies with rice, meats with rice, almost everything eaten with rice... And we never get bored of it... There's even the saying goes "We don't have a meal if we don't eat rice"
