Assuming you don't lost your power like me (which technically doesn't break a contract)? Then the contract is broken only by your death or death of a familiar which actually leads to your death but it doesn't work the other way around.
If you die the contract is broken. If familiar dies you die too.

Yeah at first you can't feel her but after a while Familiar is like self-aware extension of your body. Not to mention she's sitting on your shoulder and giggles.
