What is Seen to us and How we Perceive it.
The things in life cannot always be interpreted as we see them. The way we think about the things we see are modified by our surroundings . How we perceive the world is based on what’s around us and focus that we give to them. In short, the way we see things are not solely based on the specific object(s), but rather are based on our surroundings, the time and the mental capacity of our minds.

An author by the name of John Berger composes an article of the way we see things in an artisanal view. From his article mention, there are several specific points on our consciousness and the effects. One mentionable quote is, “We never look at just one thing; we are always looking at the relation between things and ourselves.”(Berger pg. 711) When we look at things we can see that the world around us, but what we see is based on what we know and what we know is how we connect ourselves with the world. A clock is a clock, but to us a clock is something that tells us the time, not just a circular plate. Our knowledge shapes the world around us and our vision is there to help focus our consciousness. This leads to mystification which occurs when our consciousness is focus, but our knowledge is ignorant to our surroundings. This can only lead to us once again lead us to assume of how our surroundings relate to us; how the object we see, can be used, and not solely there for the purpose of being there

The focus of what we see is once again modified from our surroundings. Waiting in line for a roller coaster, would be seen differently than waiting in line for your driver’s license. The atmosphere and visual surroundings alter the original view to the concept at hand when knowledge is involved. We all see things differently because of our personal knowledge to whatever is being focused on.

Another author by the name of Rita Carter, focuses on the psychological aspects of how we view the world. Although we may be aware of our surrounding using vision accompanied by knowledge, how much of that can we trust? As mentioned in her quote “Our tendency to miss things we are not primed to look for is called, in neurospeak, “inattentional blindness.” When we focus our vision and accompany the knowledge we use to interpret the range of sight, we tend to focus on the bigger picture rather than the minuscule discrepancies. What we notice in reality may not be a whole, as we only see part of the picture; therefore, we can say that once again our mind has altered the picture of what’s originally there.
