Are Transformers eligible for the mech rule?I think the intent is for humanform worn/piloted suites & machines. Though there are some non-humanform mechas such as the Battletech Scorpion.
Self-motivated machines opens up eligibility for things like Keith Laumer's Bolo tanks. However there are plenty of examples of AIs capable of operating suits/mechas without human guidance, such as in Iron Man 3. I think a bigger sticking point would be whether it's designed for human (or other non-AI) operation. AFAIK Transformers are not designed like that.
Transformers are just aliens. The fact that they are metal and can turn into vehicles is just a gimmick because someone said "hey I bet this would sell a ahit-ton of toys.", and it did. They technically are just living beings though hell if I know how they reproduce.

Was simply asking because I just don't watch that much in terms of mechs.
The only ones I know of really are Evangelion and Specific Rim.
And Chamber from Suisei no Gargantia.

So no we can't call Transforers.

So what series are people thinking for their mech claim? Originally I was gonna try for something from Code Geass but I was recently reminded of Zoids, which opens up a shit ton of options.

Would like clarification about this self-motivation machine claims.
Since if it's allowed my claim will be hard set.

There's Voltron and Megazord, but they're actually several mechs combined.
Can people claim them- or would they have to be claimed by their individual pieces?

That's a good question. I could see it either way.

It is old school. You can speculate to your heart's content. :-)

Transformers would count as characters since they appear with their own sentience for the entire duration of their appearance, and can't really by piloted. However, pilotable mechs with a sentient AI installed in them (A.D.A. in Jehuty, Chamber K6821 in Ledo's Machine Caliber) count.
As for the gattai/combine problem, I've decided to make both units and combined forms separately claimable. For example, one can claim the Gurren Lagann, while someone else can claim the Gurren standalone.

that about right?

Does that mean I can't claim the Tengen Toppa?
