"Different styles", as you put it, was a significant enough difference for it to gain its own genre and recognition. There is western (which is majorly recognized as cartoon) and there is japanese (majorly recognized as anime) forms of animation, to say they are interchangeable is simply a display of inconsideration. You're shrugging off thousands of people's perceptions and since concepts are widely accepted perceptions, you're on a losing side man.
