What do people think about doujin reprints, such as for Mating with Oni or Saitom Boxset?

That's not how doujins work. Especially con specific doujinshi.

I chose option 3, however if they also offered the Doujins with extras, or a signed copy I would pay more for that so I guess I chose a combination of 1 & 3

Also I am only talking about regular Doujinshi, not limited edition exclusives, like Bosshi's XXX Mix, and the Saitom Box.

I do not expect there to be many votes saying "no", but whether people will actually buy them will remain to be seen. Certainly would if I had the money, but that seems to be quite a problem these days for me.

Totally. I think the best Fakku and other sellers can do is gauge the difference between what people say and and what people buy.

In terms of doujinshi, it'll have to be an artist/art I really like and be appealing to me. A physical copy is going to just be used as a collector's item (for me at least) and since they're about as expensive as a 200+ page Fakku book, there'll have to be a good reason for me to buy one in lieu of a book.

How many shekels for your works of art.

I'd love to get a reprint on the Saitom box, but understand if the limited nature of it prohibits that. I think when there is a limited edition option, there should at least be a standard edition released later to meet demand for those who still want a print copy of something.

As far as signed copies go, I don't mind those being limited due to the fact they are signed by the artist and require more work to secure for sale. Again, though, offering standard edition unsigned copies if there is still demand for print copies should happen.

As for what I would buy personally, I'd buy any doujin from an artist I love or where I really find the art or story enticing. I'd also be a lot more likely to buy a physical copy, with digital included, than just digital for doujins I'm on the fence about. So far, Shikimaya has offered stuff from Shindo L and Shindou, both of which I adore, so I'm down for English print copies of them all if possible. I also love Bosshi, so a reprint on the XXX Mix would be more than welcome by me.

I have nothing to do with FAKKU doujinshi prints and releases, but as a doujin collector myself I am 100% against doujinshi reprints. Doujinshi are a one time printed deal, and that in itself makes them a collectible. If reprints of a doujinshi happen the value goes down.

I want a reprint because I didn't get them but I wouldn't be upset if there wasn't one. I would just like there to be more in stock in the future so I don't feel like I have to camp the store to get one. I work weird hours so I usually don't know these are on sale till they are out of stock which is depressing :(

ntfakku Reads & Collects Stuff
Not everyone can stay up and fight tooth and nail to snag a copy for various reasons.

Doujinshi collectibility can come from being limited, which are often times because they are by their very nature self published by small groups or individuals. But for companies like FAKKU or SHIKIMAYA that can license, translate and distribute uncensored versions, being limited doesn't always have to be case.

Ultimately, publishers are businesses too and I don't think it's unreasonable to say there can't be room for both limited and widely (but still high quality) editions. If past experience from previous releases demonstrates anything, it's that there's plenty of market demand so why not?

I'd love to be able to support the artists like and have something tangible to show for it, limited or not.

Agreed, it's fairly easy to acquire the original doujinshi from japanese webshops (except for ones that are sold only at events), but localized and/or uncensored physical doujinshi would be an instant buy for me.

Problem is doujinshi by it's nature and production isn't a business nor a mass commodity. It's a piece of OC on a limited batch. Just like sign copies and limited editions/first edition. Doujins are hardly ever reprinted. Even popular ones. Some do get combined to a gn novel or tankobon if there a demand like futabu or the seasonal hime doujins by our lord and savor Tsukusun. The fact that it's rare is the point. Especially for large circles and even small independent. Only the strong stand in line for hours to spend 500 yen on a fan made comic or use a proxy. If we reprint endlessly the whole idea of 'Doujinshi' is nulled. Reissues become only fluff to the original. If SHIKIMAYA wants to port it and print it then that a different thing, but it's not gonna be a carbon copy. It become a totally different product.

The fact Jacob printed the Boshhi and Saitom box has con exclusive with the remainder unsold for the store fits what is done for the japanese market. Like like a coin minted in limited quality or even books and comics. If marvel reprints a rare comic just because they can... the original become less worthful, just like a painting or photograph. I understand the reason is more 'My precious' than i just want it is more with doujin collectors and maybe the reason fan made stuff are limited run, but still if everyone can then why even. Doujinshi is collecting more then fapping. Collectors want rarity vs availability. If Jacob wanted to reissue xxx mix or Saitom box he would. Money is great, but the whole point of the hunt isn't the meal, but the game. The stalking and maneuverability. The tracking and waiting to the point you have an orgasm when you shoot and get your prey. If i wanted to get an easy kill i'll just go to a place with pen prey or small overstock pond, but the hunt is the point.

Years from now your Japanese fan made porn drawings might be worth more than what you spend. Just like a first ed of moby dick is worth cash, not because it a great book or artful... just because few people have it. Hence why Love Selection cost 600$ vs the 20$ it was sold back when it was printed or why first vol of the kodomo no jikan gn seven sea did which was cancel is rare as fuck. If jacob wanted money the books would be like tokyopop or two versions. Awesome or newspaper rag. 45$ and 19$.
