FAKKU Points (FAP)

Will the point system vary depending on what you review? E.g. if you are a reviewing a full book versus just a single chapter or one shot, will the points be altered to match what you are reviewing? Seems pretty easy to exploit if you say, Review the overall book + each individual chapter of said book. I'm not saying they shouldn't be separated since there are plenty of great books with bad chapters or vice versa, but I think people would be discouraged from reviewing an entire book if the point value per task wasn't worth the trouble.

That being said, this sounds like a great idea! Can't wait to see more about it :D

This idea sounds good, and the point about Book reviews being worth more is reasonable (as you need to buy things, books are usually more expensive, and only paid item reviews should generate points).

That said, would these be called FAKKU Points (FaP) or perhaps, if the points grant discounts and aid in purchases, FAKKU Acquisition Points (FAP)? If the site name is all caps, maybe these should be too.

How about... FAKKU Appreciation Points!?

Definitely, purchasing items will give you points.

I sincerely hope purchasing points will be retroactive.
I own every book and almost every doujin. I've spent
thousands, and I'll be severely disappointed if none
of it counts toward points.

It will be retroactive! You'll probably have the most FAP points on the website once it's ready, you'll be a FAP god.

Following up on my earlier comment, you can now convert existing comments into 5-star reviews (and receive credit for completing the task).

Very nice addition to the service with some good future potential. I tested it out by writing a review for Renai Sample, the book that started it all. Good ideas here in providing a nice incentive to encourage wise purchases and user feedback. I'll be excited to see future announcements about this.

1) It would be great to complete reviews directly from the task page for convenience.

2) How about earning points for helping with suggesting tags? Would it be retroactive points for successful suggestions, if implemented?

3) Will points have an expiration date if not used, or no new points earned, after a certain amount of time (i.e. within a year)?

4) If conventions come back, it would be great for attendees to receive points for attending/purchasing con items.

5) What if we can spend points to win special raffles? (i.e. exclusive items celebrating special events/holidays/FAKKU founding anniversary/etc...) Imagine if your favorite artist gifted a hand drawn illustration or there are some limited swag for raffle.

6) Any points for FAKKU store purchases like figured, apparel, ect.?

I'm not sure I agree with the incentives you've laid out for writing reviews. I, like H-Connoisseur, have spent thousands of dollars on hundreds of doujinshi, and in order to maximize my FAP, I need to write reviews for every single thing. It's clearly in my best interest to write a one sentence review saying "it's good!" for everything if I want to get the maximum points in the least amount of time. If I didn't really care for something, I now have to go through the calculation of "Do I want the only negative review on this doujinshi to be attached to my name? Do I want to make this comment section just a little bit worse for the sake of a little FAP?"

Just look at any reasonably popular recent manga on the site. You launched the tasks like a week ago, and the comments section is already a deluge of one line five star reviews.

a technical question
i have unzip the file using winrar, but when i try to open the program, fts.exe i get system error saying

the code execution cannot proceed because d3dx9_43.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem

This is a good point, @YQII suggested internally that we adjust the reward based on review length. So maybe writing a lengthy review gets you 100 FAP max, but only a words results in 50. Alternatively, we may be able to base it on upvotes. Since users can upvote/downvote each others reviews, it would be a good way to judge how helpful they are.

I'd suggest not basing it on up/down-votes.
For one, getting votes on your review for an older book or a niche title is much harder than for a new mainstream work, so it'd be harder to score points for those books (which might need a review more).
For another, votes can be a bit of a popularity contest, and I'd be afraid of saying my honest opinion and/or leaving less than 5 stars if I was worried it might negatively affect my votes, and by extension, my awarded points. I've already seen this happen with reputation votes on the forums after all.

I think perhaps it would be better to cap the number of review tasks a user can get (or complete) per week. That way users with lots of books will not be pressured to deliver mass quantities of low quality reviews to cash in on their points. But users with lots of books still have an advantage in that they won't run out of books to review and receive points for as fast as users with few books.

Hmm seems like a good idea we won't have to spend alot of money to earn points i like that

I like the idea of FAP but think it needs some tweaking as others have mentioned. I'd recommend:

1. Allow reviews to be posted as "anonymous" or under an alternative review name from your username. Of course you'd still need to have purchased the item to review but the review name could differ from the username is all. I imagine some users don't want others knowing who wrote what or who bought what for personal/security reasons and this option would help those with reservations also participate.

2. Don't require only 5 star reviews to earn points. If the goal is honest engagement, then users should feel encouraged to post how they really feel rating and all in a review. At least I don't want to just see 5 star reviews everywhere but rather an honest and thoughtful take one way or the other.

3. FAP shouldn't expire and neither should the time to post a review from purchase unless maybe the title expires for purchase.

4. Consider separating comments from reviews or at least adding a filter option for the user to filter them.

5. Consider FAKKU discount levels based on lifetime $ spent on FAKKU; like bronze, silver, gold, platinum, etc. in conjunction with FAP. Like maybe between 1% and 10% off depending on the level. I realize this already sort of exists with membership discounts but this added discount could perhaps stack with it and would also reward those who otherwise buy books, doujin, games, and/or merch but don't subscribe for the magazine content or videos.

Why not have some mini free task for years fidelity and purchase content , or a little point gift or coupon for your birthday . Personally i know fakku from it's free period ( was born 28/06/90 ) . Don't need to be much but you can reward us old suppoter , it probably would please some old "participant of the community" ' even active people on forum and comment section of a release based on the number of word and number of comment , that way even if an idiot just say "first" on all release we can report him and as it is only 1 word he won't gain a thing ;). As i'm french i personnaly love fakku and the work done . It's not pricey and now we even have digital book for not that much , even doujin (even if i miss some content 'cause you couldn't buy some old book , but we appreciate what you do). Why not creating some funny task for christmas and other marking date for all people even those not buying to have some little points ? I remember the funny game you did years ago . Even some point on certain achievements on the people profile ? Don't need to be much . You know just recognition is warming so don't really need much point as long as we know you love us :) . I don't know if that would help but you asked some idea so... hope it'll help

Hi, I'm in on the idea of earning points/achievements and encouraging audience participation overall.

I am wondering a little on whether I'll be gauged based on the review score I give for my purchased content. The reason I say this, is because I'm by nature quite a critical person for better or worse. Due to this it's very difficult for me to award something 5/5(because that would suggest perfection, when in truth really, no such thing exists).

Yes I'm a foodie. And out of the many hundreds of reviews I've written, I can count on the fingers of one hand, how many 5 star reviews I've given. But I have given a ton of 3/5's(to represent the average), and very rarely, 4/5's. My reasoning is, there's nothing wrong with being a 3/5. 3/5 means you're firmly in the middle, you're reliable, dependable, and get the job done. 4/5 is exceptional. 5/5 means there's nothing left to improve(very rare).

Can I see the full review?

Maybe allow people to earn subscriptions as well by doing reviews? If you review enough content, you basically get your next month free. Promotes engagement with new content and writing reviews, but could quickly flood the market with sub-par reviews, but, then again, you could put a weighting system into the "task" generation, allowing users that provide the best reviews more points for reviews/more varieties of "tasks" and opportunities.

Almost like "leveling up" and "unlocking content" but, instead, you're writing in-depth, well constructed reviews of manga and doujins 😊
