Learn that in psychology class, about the share of responsibility, someone think that someone else will help and don't bother themselves.

True, he saved her, then she just left. That's messed up. Also the guy who lifted him should had at least saw blood on him and on the ground.

No good deed goes unpunished.
At one point, I used to think little of this statement, thinking that things like karma or something would come around, and do something nice should you be a nice person. However, the more time goes on, I tend to wonder how awfully true this statement can be. Than people wonder why everyone decides to be a douche bag to everyone else, and let people, say, mug you should they see something happen.

This annoys me especially since some moron tried to mug me once. He tagged me pretty good on the arm with a knife, but he was also drunk, so I just beat the crap outta him, walked away, and then called the cops when I got back to my hotel.
Had the situation been different, it could very easily have been my neck.
The fact that one guy actually checked, and then still didn't help just don't sit right with me.

I'm wondering if he told her to run for her life when he intervened. If that was the case, I could understand her leaving. I was about to say that she SHOULD however have returned to see what had happened, but that could be very dangerous. The likelihood of the mugger sticking around is extremely low (win or lose against the Good Samaritan), but there's a chance. Paranoia would kick in and that marginal possibility would seem much much greater. Not to mention she was probably scared shitless and will never return to that street if she can possibly avoid it.
I don't understand why she didn't call 911 though. Wtf? Common sense, lady.

Each day I wake and have a little more faith in humanity.
Then I read something like this.

That's new york for you. But there's been cases of that all over the place lately ;|
The only way I could justify a lot of those peoples actions is due to being used to seeing homeless around on the streets and thinking he was a homeless man passed out on the sidewalk. However, the guy that checked him thoroughly and walked away, that was bullshit.

Good ol' Bystander effect strikes again! Man, I love psychological cases like this one. I also wrote an essay on Kitty Genovese a few weeks ago. Weird.

WTF?!
That's just plain messed up. At least the woman should have called 911 after being saved.. man that's just plain cruel..
Also that guy who took a picture with his cellphone should be beaten up... I mean he had his cellphone out and didn't think of bothering to call 911?

Wait a minute! Why where the firefighters there? And I think the one who called was the man who shook him or the owner of the building he was lying in front of.

Shows how selfish and pitiless our world has become. Too scared to help a bleeding hobo that just saved some chick cause they think he might be faking so he can mug them.

I doubt it... The world is a fucked up place with fucked up people, and dumbass people who just "Infect" it with stupidity...
then of course there are some good people...
LIKE THE GUY THAT FUCKING DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF A SIDEWALK WHILE DUMBASESS WALKED BY...
...
The fucking douchebag who took a picture should have been stabbed...
And you know what the sad part is, they probably dont even care now...
They probably think "I thought that guy before me had called the police." or some bullshit like that...
Shit like this just makes me mad...

Also, a victim might be on the ground dying without anyone helping because, with such busy lives, people don't want the hassle of getting involved and having their lives complicated by dealing with the police or having to testify in court, Geller say. And people are afraid of getting hurt.
"We're more suspicious now than ever before," Geller said. "We are very leery. This guy could be wanting you to come over, and he could jump up and steal something."

That's pretty much the heart of the issue, I believe.
People yack and jabber about how it's everyone's duty to help, but their environment as is is working against helpfulness.
If the possible reward for helping an allegedly wounded guy is hassle at best or getting mugged at worst, nobody will help. Big surprise. That's cities for you.
