I've fallen in love with the personality and persona of characters before but not to the point that I would shun real people.

Hmm my current 2-D love is complicated, There is Saati from A.I. Love You, Aoi from Ai Yori Aoshi Chi from Chobits Ohno from Genshiken, Tohru from Fruits Basket, and Sasami from Tenchi Muyo They all hold special places in my heart but Moka my pink haired Vampire vixen from Rosario Vampire is my current love.

Well its obviously not love seeing as I still have a, a bit tenuous grip on reality. So I don't know what to call it but the current objects of affection are Chidori from FMP! and Fuka from Yostubato!

You can be obsess over an anime character because you find her attractive, you can look for her doujins, porn, every single fan made picture on the web, but I dont think you can fall in "love" with the character.
She's not real, you've never even converse with her, never spend time together, u watched her adventures, her life, but i dont believe that as "love", it's more lust imo.

I myself believe you can LOVE 2D Characters even more than real people. 3D-girls have long time ago abandoned the likes of us and feeling called LOVE changed it shape so you can LOVE 2D characters.

It's just you that don't understand my friend...Yours may be Lust , But I'm sure mine and some others are not...
Even if you can't talk to her, do something for her and vice-versa, but just looking at her makes me happy...And Most Importantly...My Loyalty...SOme of you is easily said Love but only lasts when the anime( or game or whatever) are still hot in your head....I've been in love with a character since 2 years ago...and it's still going and I never get tired of her, even though there're Tons of New Wonderful Characters I've seen after I met her....I even treasured her pics and stuffs (but no doujins or fan made porns i assure you that)... Love isn't something that only can be shared by Physical Contacts...

I don't really think that we can fall in love with these characters because it's a very one sided arrangement. We can obsess over them all we like but unless there's actually an element of interaction it's just an attraction. I do think we can have feelings for these characters that are similar to admiration and love, but we can't be "in love" with them.
The first 2D girl I really liked was Belldandy from Aa Megami Sama. I like the idea that misery in life will eventually be rewarded with a really caring and smoking hot wife.
