In relation, I feel like a no post-count should be implemented at the Meet and Greet section. I frequent it at times in search of someone worthy to greet/welcome and most of what I see are the same bunch of users with just the same 'ol greeting-posts. *tsuyoshiro is probably the only one who really exerts some effort in greeting and conversing with the noobs. (he's got my admiration for that) 8) If the people who frequently goes there are "sincere" in welcoming new members, they wouldn't mind my suggestion. But for those who are merely using that section to increase their post-counts would most likely no longer bother. (again, this is all for our benefit) - I guess
i take offense to that :( i take to time to read every introduction and reply accordingly and sincerely
but i could care less one way or another if the post counts for that stopped or not for that

I'm with TDSA, I don't see what's wrong with that either. It's not like they'd stick around.

i know seriously. 98.7 percent of the people who introduce themselves there are on here for 1-2 days and then they either forget about the site entirely or just don't feel like coming to the forums and they just lurk and leech the whole time.

I'm saying I don't really care that the post the same thing. And why should it matter?

Me too! I never post the same thing more than once. I actually read every single introduction carefully and respond appropriately.

And if you feel that way, why even bother "greeting" those people who wouldn't even "stick around" ?
What you have mentioned only has proven my point that the Meet & Greet Section is only a ground for raising post-counts. (like a few other concerned members have agreed upon)

My point I'm trying to get across is that I don't care if they post the same thing, further, care less about their post count that goes along with that greet. On the side note, I pointed the obvious that most of them don't even stick around, that's after the fact that they've been greeted.

Congrats Waar on reaching 2000 posts. Maybe Fakku Ancient would be a nice title, no?
Regarding on the hilarious video issue, I'm not sure I 'll be saying it on their behalf but since I also do posts those kind of video too I should state my opinion on it. I guess it depends on the content of the post which contains the so called video, usually I would make an effort to ask people about their opinion regarding their video when I post one. Also I keep a 'cooldown' period for myself before posting any vid. In a way I do agree seeing like 3 different video in different thread by the same person at the first page are a little bit too much.
For the lack of good thread I have to say compared to the old days, now there are the special interests section where last time almost everything was discussed in random but now each have their own section which kinda reduced the type of topic to be discussed in random section. I think the idea of having a special section for video is unnecessary, people posted the video here because random section is like the busiest section here in Fakku and there would or always be a response to the topic posted here is what expected of the OP's. Making a section only to post hilarious vid or some random vid will kinda make it a dead section, since it kinda lacks the fun of posting it there compared to the random section and the lack of the audience watching/reading the topic.
I think the best way if you want to post a lot of videos, post it in the IB section or try to limit yourself to post one topic with video/videos in it per day if you want to post it in random section.

Wow good to see some awesome posts in this thread, this does make me miss the old atmosphere on the forums.
When the new design launches (within 30 days) I hope to have a lot of things fixed. And in addition I will be personally stepping up moderation on the forums.
Please continue posting your ideas, I'm interested.

@Temcor: the way I think about video postings, I think users trying to limit their video postings one per week would almost be impossible to regulate, leastwise if they break that rule. And as for the Special Interests section, it's really ridiculous that we have such sections and yet people keeping posting wrong threads in the Random section - so, in my opinion, the Random section needs a dedicated moderator. IB not so much as random.
I'm still interested in keeping the Meet&Greet section post-countless seeing how many users repeat the same stuff and the fact that many new members never show up anymore.

Congratulations, Waar, on the 2000+ posts. :)
Concerning the state of Random and all that, I have to say that I rarely visit Random, and a big part of that is the fact that most of the threads are videos. I like watching videos, but only if they're two minutes or less, and even then, I don't like to watch a lot of videos. I'd rather talk about stuff, even if it's stupid. When I'm browsing the forums, I tend to look at Random and think, "I don't feel like opening ten threads and seeing that seven of them are videos," so I don't bother going into the section at all.
But it's a double-edged sword, isn't it? If every user who posted vids just had one thread, then Random would have a lot less threads, and if we moved all the videos to IB or their own section, then Random would be like a ghost town. Well, that's exaggerating a bit, but it'd still be bad.
If Random was as fast as it used to be, I don't think there'd be a problem, but that's not the case. Didn't it used to be that every thread on the first page of the section had a reply from that very day, and even some of the threads on the second page had replies that were only a few hours old? Now, half of the threads on the first page haven't had a reply in over seven hours. I may misremembering things, but that seems pretty fucking slow for the most active board, and this isn't the first time I've seen Random like that.
I'd like to offer a suggestion, a way to improve the section and perhaps the entire forum, but I have no idea what could be done. Just hope that people post more.

Speaking as an oldfag from the 'good old days' when it was mostly me and Noutakun arguing about anything that came to mind, I have a few things to say.
1) There is always comparison with the past.
There will always be "the good old days" in oldfags minds, and normally one has to accept that the site changed/is changing. In this case there are a few mitigating factors and users that are pushing the site in one direction, but what can we really do about it? Forcing users to partake in a post count free zone when they want to post videos and imposing stricter posting rules for one, would be a good idea. Even in Serious Discussion I noticed some Random and IB-worthy replies. The topics were often a good attempt, but sometimes there was junk splattered throughout them.
Then we have the whole shit to quality ratio. If it's balanced, then everyone is mostly satisfied. What you can do to help is make thoughtful topics, thoughtful replies and not stand on other peoples threads if they're mildly good.
And to whomever said that I was on IRC because the forums went eh is semi-true. I was on IRC while I was on the forums last year or something, and then I got off due to an influx of a LOT of users, rather than constantly bitch about how good the forums used to be. My involvement in IRC has dropped noticeably, which is mostly down to the fact I'm sick of sparking conversation. The forums are not even all that bad. They just have a few areas that could do with a band aid or bandage. Even if they are whole sections and groups of users. [Not to single you guys out or anything.]
2) Nopostcounmt in M&G has been a highly debated topic between now-ex-staff.
No agreement was ever reached. I think no posts should count, apart from topic creation so the user at least gets something to show for saying hi.
3) Systems.
Some newly implemented systems from the Jakenator may be of assistance when the new site comes live. Might. Shame I can't help since I'm fired and all. :(
