A good antivirus program??

Does anyone has any reccomendation on what good antivirus program to use? I am using Windows Live ONe Care and I think it slows down my computer a lot. ANy suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks :P

McAFee is a great free one. From my now outdated experience with Norton, it kinda sucked and does cost money.
Along with a total program w/ firewall, I'd also suggest some other smaller, specialized programs like ad-aware,spybot S&D, spyware doctor, even the AOL spyware protection program is good. There is another(the name of which I forget), but it isn't really of any use unless you really know your computer and the program inside and out.

i use NOD32 it only use a lil' bit of memory and can clean almost every virus
but its only a good trojan but not the best trojan killer(i think the best trojan killer is Trojan Guarder...if anyone have the full version of please PM me)

i use avira antivir (http://www.free-av.com).
the implemented guard uses that little memory, you wont notice it.
though the spyware protection and the firewall are premium bundle.
but i use ad-aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/) for the spyware stuff,
and peerguardian (http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/) for the firewall instead.

I use avast for antivirus since its completely free. But I did hear avg is also a very good free one.
I use spybot search and destroy for spyware and popups. And window washer for misc stuff that shouldn't be on my computer. All of which is free. The way I figure it, is that most hackers are trying to get past Norton because its the most common antivirus, so if i choose to try a not so common one.

AVG 7.5 is what I use. Not for any particular reason, it was just the first thing I picked up.
I am a strong advocate of Spybot: Search & Destroy, but of the older version I have. The recent release seems to be CPU heavy for old computers (but my 3ghz dual core doesn't twitch one bit).
You see, I've never needed anti-virus programs. I run AVG every 6-12 months, and normally find no viruses. Spybot never finds anything of interest either. Basically, I browse intelligently. If there's a file that I think is sketchy, I just won't download it. So all you really need is a brain. Don't get me wrong, anti-virus software is incredibly important! But just by taking care and downloading only what you need, then you can generally get what you need without the spyware and HAX.

I also use those programs aswell.
I have another program called Adaware. It's basically the same as Search & Destroy, but it searches in a different way. I Have AVG on all the time, for updates and run an anti virus severy 4 months or so. Adaware and Search & Destroy every 2 months. Or an exception is when I think I have downloaded something iffy or the computer is running wierd, I run all of them.

If you're really worried, like you've done something dangerous lately, search for Vundos first. Vundofix is a good free one.
Then if you need to get rid of viruses, I second Antivir. It's free for the basic version and can help keep you clean with the guard active.
As for spybots, I'm satisfied with Spybot S&D.

AntiVirus I use is NOD32 as well. It's worked great for me so far and doesn't eat up my computer either. So it is win. :)

Anti-Vir and ad-aware work pretty well. You should also keep your hard drive de-fragged. That often causes windows to run slow.

After trying them all, I've got to recommend McAfee VirusScan Enterprise. It uses up very little memory, and does its job well. It isn't the easiest one to configure and use, but I'm sure you're smart enough to figure it out.
You may want a firewall as well. If you're worrying about slow downs and such, while ZoneAlarm is an excellent firewall, do not go for ZomeAlarm. I can't actually recommend a firewall since I'm currently searching for one as well, but if anyone can recommend a good firewall which uses very little memory, I would be appreciative.

Norton does slow down your comp a bunch, but other than Mcaffee they're the most reliable anti-virus out there. Norton is only for people who're constantly paranoid about viruses (i've had two computers gone b/c of viruses, so i use it), but it slows down your comp like crazy.
Bottom line is, you gotta give up some money and speed if you want comprehensive safety, especially if you dl alot.

I used to work for geek squad (sad i know), and I have to admit, no matter what antivirus people use, if their browsing habits are terrible, they'll get a virus/spyware/trojan/worm infection. (usual reason was "i was watching porn". second highest reason was "i was on myspace")
I stick with AVG, as suggested above. it's free, easy to use, and doesn't suck up system resources. In addition, I make sure that the windows firewall is on. It's really good enough for most purposes.
Apparently the new version of norton (2008) is very good on system resources, but I have yet to try it out. I'm also very reluctant to try it due to awful experiences with previous versions.
If you do manage to get yourself a malware infection a) back shit up
b) boot to safe mode with networking, c) run avg (if possible) and hit up ewido online scanner with internet explorer (too bad it doesn't work with fire fox).
pretty much guaranteed to fix everything.

I had norton anti-virus on my computer when I first got it 3 years ago. I would get viruses left and right. On top of that, it takes over just about every program on your computer making difficult to uninstall. It's almost acts like a virus.
They might have improved it recently I just don't trust it very much. I also used to have McAfee about 6 years ago, which was terrible. I wouldn't mind paying for a decent anti-virus program if it was worth the money.
