A Marquis de Sade's Thread

But...Do any of you have read or are reading the Marquis de Sade's work? I was just wondering if it was well-known outside of France. For those who never heard about him, he's a writer, very famous for his pornographic and erotic books (born in 1740, died in 1814). His work is very shocking but beautiful, he of course spend a lot of years in prison, and most of his novels are written while in prison (and for the funny facts, written on toilet paper).

So, he wrote 2 or 3 novels that are really famous because the stories are most of the time rape, violence, scat, a sort of guro, and what we call today "loli".
The "120 days of Sodome", (I read it and I'm still alive), is a story where four old men basically decide to organize the biggest orgy of their lives. Here is a link Summary.

And in that orgy, each one of the masters has the right to bring one type of sex slaves. Including kids, and it's explicit that they are kids (and virgins, boys and girls). I'm not gonna go into the details, but that guy kinda invented loli.

So, is he banned in the countries you live in? Did you have the opportunity to study/read his work?

What do you think about libertinism? Are you against this form of art, literature?

I've read bits of it a few years ago, but never the whole thing. I think I've seen in on quite a few people's bookshelves, though.

I always meant to read his work to see what all the fuss was about. i knew it was some twisted shit, because i heard his name is the basis for the term sadist. i just looked it up on my local library's website, and it looks like they might have all his books, so now i just have to remember to go get them.

Maybe I already was too desensitized back then, but I didn't find it outraging... more like, more of the same old same old, since the stuff basically kept repeating itself.

He does repeat himself a bit, but he had lots of time to kill in prison so...
