Age of consent

I started thinking about how many FAKKU members are from different countries, and what the age of consent was in those countries. i live in california, where the age of consent to have sex is 18, but i lived in nevada for a few years, and it's only 16 there(oddly tho, you still have to be 18 to buy porn).

so everyone please post the age of consent where you are.

Unless we start discussing what the age of consent should be or what we think of it (something to that effect) this thread belongs in random.

I think this is a good regulation (although it DOES look pretty weird when the age difference is too high - way back in high school, I knew a 16 year old girl that was dating a 35+ years old dude...). I mean, 18 is a ridiculous age of consent - it's not like people under 18 1) don't have sexual urges and 2) can't handle the situation of having sex and it's dangers.

It's all in the education, in my opinion.

Over here, the age of consent is 17 or 16 I believe.

Not that it really matters though. I heard about 14 year olds doing it all the time and it's not like there are cameras in every bedroom.

AOC is simply an attempt to approximate when everyone or near everyone will be able to handle adult responsibilities, among them sex. Now, regarding sex, alot of people will be ready for the responsibility of safe sex earlier than 18, alot of people won't be ready after 18. The AOC exists because, if it were judged subjectively, it would be a horrendous legal quagmire [giggity] and consume far too many resources. I think that cases of 'statutory rape' should be dealt with leniently in some cases, but AOC is there for a reason.

Where I live the general age of consent is fourteen; but sexual relations between 13 year-olds and 13-16 year-olds are likewise legal.
Prostitution below the age of 18 is illegal, and accepting sexual services from a prostitute below that age is, too.

AoC only really matters if you actually rape somebody. Anyway, it's 16 here but absolutely no one gives a shit. Loads of the girls in clubs are 14, 15 or less if they can get away with it (and bouncers usually turn a blind eye for underage girls, if not underage boys).

In the State of Washington, it's 16. The age bumps up to 18 if you are in a position of power over the younger.

Canada = 14.

15 in Czech Republic. There was an attempt to lower AoC to 14, along with criminal responsibility, but failed.

18 here. It's really just a number though. Sex happens reglardless of it.

I've always thought that an Age of Consent and the age of adulthood should be the same. Nothing quite as odd as having sex with a sixteen-year-old and not being able to take photographs or movies. <.<

I just double-checked to be sure and its 16 here in Kentucky. I looked on Wikipedia and this map they have shows all the various ages of consent around the world.
