Aggressive atheists

Chances are you were trying to convert him and instead of him responding the way you personally think he should, he gets offended and calls you out on it.

I'm a pretty strong atheist (Dawkins-style), yet until college, every single one of my close friends was Christian, and almost everyone I knew was some kind of religious. Now I'm friends with a couple of nonbelievers, but I have no problem with my friends being lightly into any religion. None of my friends are religious nuts on any level, which is probably why I have so little trouble accepting them. What really surprises me is how little trouble they have accepting me.
Beliefs like "God wants us to help others," are not something I dislike. Sure, I don't think God has anything to do with kindness or good deeds, but that's a minor caveat. Things like "one true faith," "stone the gays," "no salvation without ______" is the kind of stuff that makes me vomit in my mouth.
I have no problem with other atheists being anti-religious, as long as they aren't too dickish about it.
Christianity and Islam have been slaughtering and subjugating every group of people they've come across for centuries, forcing their own monolithic and intolerant views up the conquered. While these practices have largely subsided in recent times, the standard 'my religion is tolerant and nonviolent' that many practitioners spew is a flawed argument - Statement with which I agree/have no qualms.
Christians are a buncha homophobic nazis! - Statement that may be incidentally true, but misses the overall picture and is more the result of simplistic intolerance than enlightened despotism.

I grew up in the SF bay area. it's a pretty diverse and progressive place in general, and i remember more christians pushing their beliefs on people than atheists.
when i was in high school, i had a shirt for the band Slayer with a green demon head on the front*. some of the students kept telling me it was "disrespectful to their faith". a teacher even tried threatening me with suspension or expulsion if i wore it to school(public btw), but i went over her head to the VP and she got in trouble.

go to ANY christian rock music video such as
Rebirthing - Skillet
Fading - Decyfer Down
All Around Me - Flyleaf
and you see Christian's FORCING religion onto other people, they are vicious and mean, now i know i might be trolling, but you also gotta accept your religious group isn't full of pure hearted people who accept what other people think. If you honestly think Atheists are mean, then i can show you plenty of facts of people thinking there "crucifying" the non-believers by making the most prejudiced things and proudly showing it off.

OT: I always find it funny in some cases (at least for me), when I have them need to say "Have a blessed day" or "God bless you", it happens to be a bloated clit of an atheist most of the time.
I hate people who react like they've been insulted in a way when someone blesses them. I myself am atheist and when someone blesses me i just see it as though they may care about my well being.
to me being atheist just means you don't give a fuck about religion, if someone tries to convert you just let know your not interested and move on. or with this threads topic, In my opinion anyone who starts an altercation because someone stated their belief is a dickhead because its not them so it shouldn't matter what someone else believes.

I dont get this either because if someone is walking around with a shirt like that i dont see how someone can find it offensive to their religion. Its not as if they are rejecting the religion or disrespecting it, they are simply expressing theirselves.
That may be something to think about because even though there are some atheists who are dicks, they probably became that way because of social treatment they may have recieved. For example, in my case I went to a school where every student was either christian or turkish. when my classmates found out I was atheists they chewed me out telling me how im gonna burn in hell and whatnot. I thought to myself there was no point in them being harsh since they werent the one who were atheists, but well watever.
umm when my family found out i was an atheist they kept forcing me to go to church, and my mother sent me to a christian camp for a week (i didnt dare to tell anyone at that camp that i was atheist... so the person who was acting a dick to you may have had a rough past when it came to religion. so you should just ignore it and move on.

Where's your location? If it's the US, then this explains a lot. Lots of atheists have become quite vocal after numerous attempts to subvert law and policy with religious mumbo jumbo. The jail or community service at a church thing?
Off topic, but I love what your grey rep thingy says, Freaky.
I'm pretty sure some atheists can be perfectly horrid and mean people, just like some Xtians can be utterly vapid dumbasses.

Modern Islam is very pacifist and has already adapted to the modern ways of the world, but they don't have "the right" power to fight the conservatives.
I'm only bothered by atheist is when they're trying to force their opinion on why god does not exist.

Is it just me or are atheists getting more and more aggressive towards the Christians (like myself)? I don't mind atheism believe what you wanna believe but Ive been told that I needed to burn in a fire from several atheist saying that "I'm ruining the word" etc etc bla bla bla bitch bitch bitch. So what do you guys think? Have you seen this around.Well, from my POV, I sense Irony, but people who try to instill their ideas on to others when it's unwanted or coerced is wrong, so tell them to F*ck off. Like I do to Boy scouts. I want cookies damn it.

Notice I said "While these practices have largely subsided in recent times." IIRC, you're from Indonesia, which is much more tolerant than Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan. Still, the government's statement that all the religions of Indonesia are essentially monotheistic is just vapid, and I'm totally opposed to the special status of Aceh. I think Indonesia is a good example (Iran is the best one) where the government is more religiously conservative than the general populace, and could do with a bit of lightening up. But I agree with you that most modern Muslims are not violently opposed to other faiths / lack of faith.

I truly believe the problem with aggressive atheists is that they hate ALL Christians unanimously as per experience with those lunatics that force themselves to the so called sinners who will burn in hell, while in truth they should try to avoid hating all Christians but all Christians EXCEPT Catholics. We don't usually preach to others and keep to ourselves, we don't hold rallies or scream fallacies that queers are demons and are destroying our world, etc etc. Faith shouldn't be telling others what to do, faith is something to strengthen my connection with the Divine which just so happens to bring my faith to others but not through words and evangelization but by good action. Anyways we should fullheartedly destroy all other "Christians" in the world, they truly do deserve to burn in hell as the heretics they are

Actually, I was referring to the poorly veiled attempts to cram religion back into the public school curriculum.

I am an Atheist. What I would say I hate more is fucking religious people trying to push their fucking ideals on people. Somehow they believe they are actually sent by god to save you. There is far more "Aggressive Christian/Religious" people than Atheist.

These post put my thoughts in perspective. While yes its true we have people in my faith that are.... idiots but your right we have a tendency to preach some times.

Spoiler:
I'm Atheist. I respect the beliefs of others. I just hate the extremist types that go around trying to shove what they believe down your throat.
I don't go around trying to school people when they try to get me to convert. I just say whatever brush it off my shoulders and walk away.

I am an atheist and I have no problem with christians. They are allowed to believe what ever they want to believe.

I think, especially in European countries where religion is now a minority subscription, that the popular, absolutist brand of atheism has developed an aggressive mentality of progressiveness and undue assuredness.
I accept that the lines between atheism and agnosticism have become massively blurred, but in many respects it has taken on qualities of established religions which I believe to be counter-productive.
