America's hypocritical eat healthy!

More of a rant than anything, but it might spawn some actual discussion.
If there is one thing I hate about the United States it is how hypocritical we are about eating healthy. Past few years all you hear is about how out of shape America is (which is true) and that we need start eliminating so many carbohydrates in our diets and lower the amount of meats ands starches we all want to eat.
Well, fine. However, all the organic foods, foods low in carbs, calories and sugar are all substantially more expensive than their normal counterparts. It reeks of trying to have one's cake and eat it too. We want you to eat healthy... but we also want you to line our pockets even more!
Oh I don't know. You might get more people to cooperate with better food choices if you didn't ask them to pay twice as much for food items. Organic fruits and vegetables are the worst. You'll easily pay 1.5 if not twice as much just because it says "organic" on the sticker.
It pisses me off. Either stop bitching about how poorly your people eat or make healthy eating more affordable.

*claps* thats exactly what i think!
i mean if they really want you to be healthy then they would make the bad food so tastey and cheap. I mean they can make healthy food cheap and tastey but they make it way out of price. I mean i can buy 6 chciken burgers for the price of a salad

You say it as if everyone in the country is saying all those things at once. Really it's different groups of people trying to accomplish different things. So yes as a group Americans make no damn sense but separately we....probably make some sense some of the time?

I would suggest going to some farmers markets, or smaller produce shops.
There's a place around where I live which charges reasonable prices for organically grown food (I only get it if I'm making something special)---but they can only do that because they have a loyal customer base.

What I hate most about the situation is that "foods" like protein bars, protein shakes, etc (the types of things I would prefer to purchase) tend to be a lot more costly than normal chocolate/candy bars, normal drinks and so on. Honestly, it makes sense that they cost more. When the majority of people prefer junk food over healthy food, why wouldn't junk food be made more available and cheaper than the other? Still, kind of sucks and discourages the purchasing of healthier foods.
I mentioned protein and such because I used to buy the drinks and all, back when I was constantly working out (in order to maintain good health and build on it). The average bottle of a protein drink cost me about $4.89. For that same price I could have purchased about five sodas. :|

This is my problem with "healthy" foods. I still eat healthy, but thats only because I can afford to. Many people cant, and thats not fair to them. Obesity in this country is only as rampant as it is because fast food like McDonalds is so much more convenient.

You don't have to buy health foods to eat healthy, just eat normal food in different rotations to get all the vitamins and nutrents you need, thats what I do. Also HentaiElder and TheDarkStarAlchemist you don't need to take protein supplements on average a person gets more then twice the amount of protein they need a day, but thats Americas statistic and I'm not sure thats where you live so sorry if I just wasted your time.

Protein supplements allow you to manipulate when the body takes in the most.
I don't remember the exact details, but 90% of the protein not taken around workout time is turned into fat (mostly because it's excess).
Most supplements around contain HGH and.....the name of the other supplement eludes me. It fills muscles with water, allowing for greater size with less work. Starts with a C?
I avoid that bullshit anyway. Straight whey, in a fruit smoothie (made by myself to minimize excess sugar).

I'm 90% sure that's BS. Protein doesn't magically convert into fat anymore than carbohydrates, both of which contain the same caloric density (4cal/gram) and neither will be turned into fat unless you're caloric expenditure is less than your caloric intake. Carbohydrates, Protiens and Lipids are completely different organic structures, and before any conversion can happen they need to be broken down into extremely simple components.
Anyways, what really pisses me off is tofu. I keep hearing that it's the worlds cheapest form of protein, yet when I go to the grocery store and find it's more expensive than chicken by weight and has less protein at the same time.

Damn those products slapping on random shit about losing weight without exercising, look slimmer and all that lunacy. I would rather run 30 km a week (not in just one day though) Then after like 2-4 weeks I would be healthier, stronger and thinner. Because if you don't exercise and depend on these fucked up products. You will get thin but not strong, and it takes a long time to get the desired effect of the product, after spending tons of money you still won't get better results than exercising!
exercise is better, it's free (gym? fuck that I have a road to run on) fun, and you'll feel better about yourself. So america go out there and exercise!!

The health business costs more to run. The companies put more money into the agriculture and processing. For example, organic farms yield 20% less crop for the same amount if not more work. So in order to make a return on their profits, the companies need to jack up the prices. Of course greed is a factor, but there are legit reasons for higher prices.

Yeah, it sucks dude. Where I live there's like 1 fit person for every 10 overweight persons(not an actual fact, just a example of how many more overweight people there are than fit.)

I was purposely being biased, which is why I called it a rant. I don't want to be objective about it because I refuse to believe that the extra effort and money equates to such a huge hike in prices. Then again, I'm not a business man nor an economist so I can't back that up.
