An interesting question
0
Just the other day, when I was on my way home via the train (some prefer to call it the subway), I saw a particularly hot female with fairly large breasts getting onto the same carriage as myself. She was wearing a white stretchable t-shirt and one could clearly tell she was wearing a blue lacey bra beneath.
Well then, you may ask, what does the above got to do with striking up a conversation with strangers? To tell the truth, nothing. I could continue ogling at her until I noticed a seated passenger, this time being an office lady, watching an episode of Lucky Star on her laptop.
I was tempted to go up and speak with her, since we do have something in common, namely anime. Unfortunately, I lacked the courage to do so. Furthermore, I am afraid that the other party may see me as a weirdo, or even a pervert, especially when said stranger is a female.
Which brings me to my question: Will you attempt to strike up a conversation with a stranger whom you believe has similar interests as that of yourself? It could be anime, manga, novel, or even a newly released technology gadget which serves as evidence of his/her interests.
Perhaps all of us could attempt to make new friends (or at least acquaintances) whenever possible and post our experiences here, be it whether we were successful or not.

nope, would be killed if i did. i was a member of the usf anime club but outside the anime fan world, norms would be afraid of us. now if they were in a anime store or cons then go for it.

I swear, there were so many occasions where I wanted to just go up to people and ensue chat. However, I was intimidated because they either seemed like:
1. They wouldn't understand a word I would say.
2. They would kick my ass.
3. They are so seemingly popular that it made me shrink in shame.
If I had the chance though, I'd most likely go for it. :I

Sometimes I do...when I'm feeling hyper. Most of the time, they just end up being amused by it. lol
However, it only pertains to casual conversation; topics that are less likely to result in awkwardness. I remember one time when I was at a netcafe using the computer, the guy sitting next to me suddenly leaned toward me and asked me for my name and age out of nowhere. I was rather creeped out by it and ended up logging out earlier than I normally would have.

i do all the time, i usually don't have any qualms about walking up to someone and striking a conversation. i used to hate talking to strangers, but then i got a series of jobs and positions where you have to go up and talk to strangers on a daily basis. i got over the shyness and i've had some pretty great conversations and gotten new friends that way.

If it was something truly astounding or out of the ordinary (aka not just watching Naruto or whatever shit), and the person looked decent enough... sure why not.
Nothing to lose.
Nothing to lose.

Don't see why not. What have you got to lose? Worse case she'll think your weird, and if you live in a large town, chances of meeting again are null (And say you do meet again she'll remember you as being a character ;). Best case will be you hit it off and get his/her phone number.

Ive had that happen to me sometimes actually...
I was reading I Am Legend on the bus one time, when some random girl started a random conversation with me about how the book is better than the movie (mind you this is around the time the movie had barely came out) I kinda just listened to her talk about why the book is better than the movie, then when she finished some super long talk, I just said "Well I havent watched the movie so I wouldnt know" I forget what happened after, but yeah that happened to me...
As for me starting a conversation with someone who shares the same interests as me, I wouldnt really say anything unless its something I really like...

Being an old man and a drunk I feel that all people under the age of 30 that I don't currently consort with should all get off my lawn and stop bothering me while I try to listen to my Bobby Darin records.

Same here. Even the job thingie.

watching an episode of Lucky Star on her laptop.Nope. Only thing I would have told her is "out there is a lot of better anime than that one".
Maybe if she were watching something else I find more interesting I would.

This one time there was this chick in class who was playing monster hunter. . .
. . .I found love
It happened last 2 weeks since I broke up with mah last GF, hitting on girls is easy as long as you have a greatsword.
Then after one crazy night I had a girlfriend, my ex was soooooo mad . . .
So I guess you should do it, you never know dude.

i'm pretty sure i've mentioned this before, but I tend to lose my voice when I get really nervous (i'm lame that way), but if the person was watching or had something that I really, Really, REALLY liked, I would probably start a conversation, but thats really rare...

Will you attempt to strike up a conversation with a stranger whom you believe has similar interests as that of yourself?(It was raining.)
Some little bitch kept trying to spin me out while I was go-karting, racing my dad. We are highly competitive when it comes to racing, and he spun me out on the final turn during the first race. On the second race, some kid kept trying to spin me out, so I couldn't catch up to him most of the race. Considering he had pole position and I started third to last (with 12) and passed everyone but him in the first lap, I think I did pretty good. Cheating bitches in the rain.
Back to the question: afterwards, that little bitch kid came up to me with his friends, called me awesome to my face, and then I beat the shit out of them. I don't give a fuck. We joked as we left the karts, and then the place closed. I then went to see Inception with my bro. Where another individual made conversation with me. It's not hard, and if you're wrong, who the fuck cares? Just back away slowly, and don't make any more eye contact. Then book it.

Once I had a wery long convesation with a stranger who was wery familiar.
After that I slept. When I woke up I found a weed cig and a big mirror in front of me. Fuck I talked to myself for over two hours. No wonder that guy was suspicious.
Conclusion : Don't smoke weed in front of a mirror.
Hey, but I had a good time. lol

I enjoy talking with others to break up the every day silence and routine. Part of my summer job for carpet cleaning is to strike up conversation with a total stranger so it is not dead silent while I work lol (also helps to get tips).
I love striking up random conversations with people if I believe they have the look of wanting to talk.
It all depends on the situation I guess, but most of the time I would talk.
