If you want a decent battery life, don't get the Thunderbolt. Without the extended battery it just chews through your power, especially when using the internet. If possible I would wait for the Galaxy S II, I only got this phone because my old one died, I was planning on getting a Galaxy S II. Nevertheless, the Thunderbolt is still a nice little toy to have on you, just make sure you bring a charger or something with you.

You definitely should wait for it. It is leagues above any other Android handsets in existence except the Sensation, which the SGS2 still wins by a small margin.
Here is my SGS2 decoding MKV flawlessly up to 1080p, unconverted.

I pretty much am out with friends most of the time or at work so I have my charge cable with me at pretty much all times. So I would love the thunderbolt. What is the average battery life of your toy?

If I'm playing around with it... just a few hours, if I'm playing with it nonstop. If I just leave it in my pocket the whole day, then it lasts the whole day. It would definitely be a better idea to wait for the Galaxy S II when it comes out since it's a faster phone with a screen that's better against sun glare, with a better battery life as well. If you want a phone just to toy and play around with, you should probably get Xperia Play, that's the playstation phone. If you want 4G on Verizon though, the thunderbolt is the only phone with that for a while... and keep in mind that it's only in major cities, I gotta drive about 15-20 minutes towards Los Angeles to start getting some 4G coverage. Also keep in mind that Internet will be the #1 battery killer on this phone because the 4G tech in it just chews up the power really quick.
EDIT: The battery life is also a big reason I'm gonna grab the Playstation Vita (the 3G version) for internet and fun, it really goes away that fast.

Couldn't agree more that the Samsung Galaxy S II is the best one out there right now. Various reviews and such I have seen and nothing beats it. I love how fast it renders the web pages, planning on getting one some time.

Spoiler:
I feel guilty holding my X right now because I want one of those sooooo bad right now. I really need to look at all of the specs and features it offers.
Also I totally saw your face in the reflection of the phone.

1.2GHz Dual Core Exynos. 1GB RAM. Mali GFX. Super AMOLED+ Display. 8MP camera + Flash @1080p video capture at 30fps. HDMI out, can drive displays/TVs up to 1920×1080, playing HD mkv on your TV is therefore no problem at all.
There is nothing close to it. It's coming out in the US this July on all carriers. Decision is obvious.

'Cept I just bought my X in November. And buying the phone without a contract would just be stupid.

How do you like the Thunderbolt? I heard it's a monster.I got one to test with at the office and it is indeed a monster. I also have a Captivate (Galaxy S) but I don't like it that much. Its always sluggish when changing menus probably because I heard the file system on it is crap. If you jailbreak it and convert it to ext3/4 I heard it is pretty good.
Also the latest Android version (2.3.3) that was released to a lot of phones over the past couple of weeks broke our app with no way to fix it yet =(
