Who has a phone or device with an Android OS running on it? Does anyone here know anything about rooting or gingerbread updates? I'm looking for people who are savvy with phones. I've been a bit obsessed with them lately.
I have a Motorola Droid X. It's awesome. I use it more than my laptop now.

Hey, ya know, I never would have thought of that if you hadn't had said that. Definitely not. Because Google isn't my homepage, and I haven't already used it to make myself a member of about six android forums. Nope. Not at all.
Maybe I should clarify. I'm looking for people ON FAKKU who know stuff about this subject and would be willing to chat about it because I love this place and would rather talk to you people rather than flaming fags on those forums.

Oh hi. :) I'm actually a new Droid X user. Just upgraded from an old Juke from verizon. I now have this phone that does everything as opposed to one that just does music. After setting up all my accounts, I find myself wondering what I should do with all this power. XD
You appear to be a qualified Android OS runner, so I hope you don't mid if I ask a few questions. What is a reliable Micro SDHC to use? Brand and speed class. I just got one that I ordered in the mail from Newegg. It's and ADATA 8gb class 6. I copied all my files off of the stock 2gb one, and then directly copied them to the new ADATA 8gb one in Mass usb storage mode. The file transfer plateaued to 3.5 mb/sec. I freaked out since it supposed to be a class 6. I formatted with the SD association formatter and then speed checked it with ATTO. Results were +10 mb/sec read and write speed... Lies and blasphemy. >_< Transfered the files again, and it still plateaued at 3.5 mb/s transfer speed. Is there some sort of explanation here?
I'm pretty excited about this new phone. I've been on the fence with this phone and the iphone for forever but I finally got a droid x.

I use an HTC, and now I'm curious about rooting or gingerbread updates as well +__+Which HTC? Different phones use different programs to root and some phones have the gingerbread update out and others do not. Gingerbread is (for now) and unofficial update to a smoother and pretty OS: an updated Blur. Concerning root access, try to find a program that does it for you. Believe me when I say I know the troubles of manual rooting.
Give me the model you are using and the OS version that you are running and I will try to find the rooting program that is available.
For myself when I rooted I used z4root for my X. Worked like a charm. Most of them are just one touches.

I have an Android, it's pretty pro. I love it. I can do tons of stuff with it. My (old) iPhone seems like a baby toy compared to an Android. It's an HTC Incredible, I got it with Verizon.

Samsung galaxy 5 (i5500) here. Still on eclair (v2.1), coz i'm too lazy to upgrade it to froyo (had to reinstall stuff + contacts backup etc.)
If you want too root your android, try Universal Androot.
@StriderXIX: Maybe your droid caused bottleneck in transfer speed... Try to transfer files to your microSD with a USB card reader.

Where have you been? Oh, and I have a Samsung Galaxy S II. I'll probably make a thread for it when it comes out in the USA.
It's a beast-like superphone.

I use to have a Motorola Droid and I was going to upgrade to the HTC Thunderbolt but went with the iPhone instead. I do miss the Android OS, but there is a lot of little things that I like better about iOS.

These phones are a FLIPPING god send. God, best 200 I ever spent. That's what I said like a month after buying it.
Actually after rooting my phone I found an unofficial gingerbread update for my X after installed it. It unrooted but I think there is a root that supports it now. The now OS version is smooth and the home screen is much better. It does take longer for the screen to rotate for some reason, though.
Rooting didn't really matter that much anyways. A lot of people used it to run custom ROMs or ROMs from other phones. I just used it to get free wireless hotspotting. The Wi-Fi tether I had was fantastic.

I got a Thunderbolt, I haven't rooted it yet. I plan on overclocking it later after rooting though... and after getting the extended battery.
