College Cooking (stove, microwave and toaster oven)

So for another year I now have a personal access to a stove, microwave and !!!toaster oven!!! huzzah, for cooking on campus in my apartment.
Given I'm poor as most students are, what are some meals that can be prepared quickly and easily from scratch, made from reasonably priced ingredients? I've done lots of pastas and some oven-cooked chicken from Trader Joe's, but not much else.
My issue is it should be minimal in use of dishes, as clean-up takes out of homework time (and there is no dishwasher for more heavy duty scrubbing). I'd also like to make things I can save portions of for later meals.
What are some of other F! students' standard recipes that will be sure to please?

hmmm, ive recently returned to my study after a 3 month break, so im a tad out of practice, but here are some examples I remember making myself a lot...
Fried Rice -
the basic recipe i use is
Im generally poor, but if you want to add a little extra to it, you can add extra ingredients to it as well, like chicken, vegetables, even mince meat. I also generally add garlic and ginger to it as well.
Ramenlette
if you get tired of having noodles over and over again, this is a tasty way of preparing them. Credit goes to Melfice and the recipe is here.
Mug Brownie.
If you feel like you need to treat yourself to a desert, but the wallet is almost empty and you have as much time as money (that is not a lot) - then this is the ultimate student desert - quick and cheap.
you can be creative like Nekohime here or you can follow this ultra basic recipe here

Theres always the trusted sandwich, but I assume that you know how to make one of those... Id suggest you bake the bread yourself (i do, it tastes better that way and baking also helps me get all the stress out, but if you are under time constraints...)

You can simply stir-fry some chopped veggies like
snow peas
or onions
or carrots
or bellpeppers
with some type of meat
like chicken
or pork
Not much seasoning is needed maybe
salt
or soysauce
or hotsauce
or msg*kiddin*
Thats what I do for a low cost meal.

Get some egg noodles from the asian store, they are very versatile and delicious. You can boil it for 8 minutes and strain it to mix with stuff like peanut butter+vinegar or tian mien jian or make soup noodles.
Here's my favorite simple meal:
Egg & Tomato noodle soup~
chop 1 large tomato into about 16 pieces.
Add enough oil into a large pan/wok to thinly cover the bottom and fry the tomatoes until they are soft. Using the pot cook however much noodles you want to eat. When the noodles start to float, add the tomatoes and crack the two eggs into the pot. Cook for another 3-4 minutes adding salt and white pepper powder/vinegar for flavoring. Pepper and vinegar are optional though.
Its pretty filling and has protein, some vegetables, and carbohydrates.

fried rice without soy sauce?? :D
I usually fry garlic till its gold/yellow, then I add in sliced chicken meat and wait for a bit till it become white, and then add eggs and scramble it a bit, then add in rice, stir fry it, add pepper, salt, soy sauce, rice wine, then wait for like 2-3min, and lastly add cooked pea, raw chopped young green onion.

You get all that? Wow, when I went to college, all I had was a microwave. Ramen, as most will say, is king. That and the cafeteria...

yeah, I find you get a better flavour using a stock cube instead of soy sauce, but maybe thats just me. Also I like using stock cubes as I can use it to flavour the rice complimentary to any meat I am adding (as in if im having chicken with, I will use a beef stock cube)

Egg Burritos, or hell, burritos of any kind. Eggs, beans, and tortillas are all really cheap, and they're good for any meal.
Also, some of those "hearty" cambells soups over rice or a baked potato are great.

well aren't you in luck. HEHE. You should be bless to be able to have those cooking stuff. That on it self is a blessing to
help your morals in college. Please tell us you what you have for budget, access to food( grocery,asian market,etc).
The best person you can ask for these advise is a Culinary student. I know all the tips and tricks of this. Making meals
these days are not hard. Specially if you are Asian(hehe).I can suggest lots of ideas of prepping and just combine.
Seriously invest on a rice cooker. Rice is cheaper and better than instant Ramen.
you can easily use it to just combine all the ingredients and just press that button.
example (can of soup, frozen veggies, some rice, and meat)= one pot meal
or
make rice and then stir fry some veggies with pre-cut meat.
As for stocking up. Try to buy some can foods. The best is can of tomatoes.
They are just better than fresh for taste and value.

( 1 can of stew plum tomatoes, sugar to taste,2 cloves garlic & 1 oz ginger, 2 stalks green onions, 4 eggs)
1.saute garlic and ginger for less than 15 secs then add can of plum tomatoes
2.Cook can of stew tomatoes in pot and let it cook on stove top till half reduction of water volume in mid heat-10 mins about
3. then add dice green onions or just use cut into some sticks.
4. simmer for 5 mins and done.
5. Then crack some eggs and cook them to scramble them. add to the tomatoe stew.
6.service over hot white rice.
Tomatoe and Egges over rice.
You can also invest on Rice Noodles. It is the best instant noodles since you just need hot water to cook.

also you can make mug cakes in the microwave if you want something sweet to munch on.. it's really easy to make and only takes about 5 minutes! you can find recipes for that online and choose the best one you like, but here's a recipe that works out for me:
4 tbsp flour, sugar
2 tbsp cocoa
3 tbsp milk, oil
3 tbsp chocochips (optional)
a bit of vanilla flavoring and a pinch of cinnamon, to your liking (this is also optional)
mix it all in a small bowl/mug and microwave for about 3 minutes (again, the timing may vary from the microwave's settings)
you could also make pizza bagels/bread, just buy the bread(you could use either normal sandwich bread/bagels/pita bread), pizza sauce, and cheese (optional) separately and just put them all together on a plate and microwave/toast it and it'll be really nice and delicious!
