Do people get shocked?

So I was telling some of my new friends that I was a big anime fan and such. And all of them suddenly looked like this



This happens everytime to me. At first I found it odd but now it's quite amusing to see their reactions. But I guess it depends on who you hang out with. Even my friends who are self proclaimed otakus react the same way.

Quick description of myself:

I love playing sports, going out to parties, and hanging out with friends. I'm pretty much outgoing. And apparently I don't look the type who would watch anime (I didn't even know there was a certain type for it)


So do people get shocked when you tell them you love anime?

Not really, they're more like STFU, because I talk about anime non-stop.

Most people doesn't really care. Perhaps because in my social circle there's a lot of people who watch anime and it has become such a usual thing these days anyway.

But yeah, a few people has been quite surprised to hear it.

No, but my friend would have the right to slap me if I suddenly said I cared about celebrity drama.

Most people I tell give me that look, mainly because they are trying to determine when I have time to even watch anime will all the stuff I do in my free time off from work and school.

Not really. Most of my friends grew up watching Dragonball/Z/Pokemon. Even if they so called "grew out of those cartoons" they still understand what anime is and don't really bother me about it too much.

True dat.


No they don't get shocked, they are more like "how can you watch that?" They think it's lame or boring or something like that. But they accept it of course so I don't really care.

Those that have asked me this question usually have seen me draw when I'm bored, so they can tell from how I draw that I like anime. Other times it's not so obvious unless they get in my car and hear the J-Pop I got cranking up. However some do get shocked since I tend to be all serious in real life.

I'm so much of an introvert and so plain looking that when I do go out, I'm almost never noticed by people in the first place, so if they happen to find out that I like anime then they're usually just apathetic about the ordeal.

What shocks them more is when i mention i dont watch any of those mainstream,moe animes.

They just go insane lol.

I watch TV shows and anime...so If someone talk about tv shows, I replied with tv shows...if they're talking about anime, anime it is...

I don't think my friends care about me watching anime or not...lol

Some of the reactions I've got from friends and people I've met.

"What's anime?"

"Really?! You mean like DBZ or Naruto!? What's better DBZ or Naruto!?" (I still laugh when I hear this)

"Errr... That's cool, I guess."

"You should be golfing more and getting better instead of wasting your time watching that junk." (Got this both from my old golf coach and my dad)

"That shit is stupid."

"I knew I wasn't alone in this town!" (Some guy I ran into, He saw my Suzumiya T-shirt and ran up to me. I thought he was going to molest me or something at first.)


"I didn't know girls were into that stuff."



And... Many more...

No not at all =] They just say really? SO DO I!!!!

All there is to it. I just don't fit what people assume as the 'regular' archetype for someone who watches anime.

not exactly, some of 'em sometimes say "hey, i watch that too" or stuff like that

They don't get shock. They watch Anime too..but not that much. They only watch Anime sometimes so yeah, they don't get shock when I say I love or watch Anime.

same as gugu.. my friends always got to tell me STFU.. they even covering my mouth..

No. I never even tell people to begin with.

About the only one that knows is my younger brother, and he couldn't care less.
