Speaking of mechas maybe you guys can help me im looking for one. When I was younger, and had not started watching anime yet, I was streaming through the t.v and I saw what i think was an anime. All i can remember is a piece of the opening it showed a dark city, dark as in dark not evil, and it was snowing then a mecha face came out that looked like a gundam. Also i think their mechas were in space, are planes that turn to mechas, and two of the main characters were enemies, but friends.
P.S. No it is not gundam seed or destiny and it might not be a gundam based anime, but the faces make you think they were.
Thanks for the help!

Yup and trying to break more into it slowly. Favorite one will always be Big O for me.

Love it. Could be an absolutely terrible show, but I'd still finish it if it had a decent enough focus on mechs.
Only other genre I'd say I like more than mech is horror/thriller, but rarely do shows properly capture the suspense of a thriller or the subtleties of a proper horror.

Gurren Lagaan is about the only mecha anime I really enjoyed. I guess Accel World counts too, although they're not giant robots but rather cyber robotic avatars of themselves.

Needles to say, it all depends on the story and overall quality of the anime. I LOVE mecha, given that the plot is better than random fighting people and rockets. pew pew pew

The idea of a mecha series is enough to get me to check something out, but not enough to get me to watch it until the end.
simply put, mechs open the door, but it takes more than that to get me to stay.

Love mecha anime so much that in addition to reading as much manga and downloading as much anime as my drives can hold, I play mecha anime games on PS2, PS3 and my XBOX 360! Favorite mecha games include Zone of The Enders 1 & 2(this inspired a couple of anime series/ovas), Armored Core games, and my ultimate favorite franchise Another Century's Episode games or A.C.E. as it is abbreviated. A.C.E. 1, 2 and 3 are on PS2, and A.C.E. R for PS3. A.C.E. is a mash up of units from many different mecha anime all ending up on one original plot line in a campaign. Imagine piloting say, the Strike Freedom from Gundam SEED Destiny with your wingmen being Hikaru from Macross and Heero in his Wing Gundam Custom!!! Or whatever other mecha unit you choose to pilot and other wingmen!!!

I quite enjoy it. One of the first Animes I ever watched was Vision of Escaflowne, and it sort of got me into the genre

I don't really watch this genre of animes often. The last one I remember watching was Gundam seed destiny. Man, that's so long ago....

In anime, i think its difficult to pull off mecha, because personally, i dont really like the style that mecha has in anime, because id prefer if i could actually take the mechs seriously. The only mecha anime ive seen and liked is susei no garganti :3 but hey what do i know ^_^

Im not too much into mecha anime, but from time to time there comes a really good series that surprises me like Aldnoah Zero, the OST and the Plot was awesome and some old series too like Gasaraki.
