                        Hi
I was wondering how many people actually like to drive. I drive but I don't really care for it, it's just a necessity for me to get to places that are out of walking distance. The money it takes to maintain a car, gas it up, insure it, and get it fixed when it breaks is extremely expensive. Then there is all the stress that driving puts on you. When you are driving there is a need to be constantly aware of your surroundings and you also need to factor for idiots on the road who do insane things like cut you off, pull out in front of you, run red lights, TEXT WHILE DRIVING, TALK ON THE PHONE WHILE DRIVING, etc etc.
Also figure what happens if you screw up and hit someone and they die. Your life is essentially fucked for several years sitting in a prison cell. You have earned the eternal hatred of every friend and loved one from whom you stole life regardless of whether it was an accident or not. Even if you don't kill them you are still in danger of getting your butt sued off or seeing a massive hike in your insurance premium.
So, considering all these things and I may think up more to add to my list, do you still like to drive or do you just see it as a necessary mode of transportation to get where you need to go when you can not walk the distance. I realize that in America getting your driver's license is a rite of passage. It symbolizes freedom to many teenagers who have to have someone take them places.

I learned to drive back in my junior year in HS. Didn't enjoy the parallel parking, but I did like the feel of driving the old Oldsmobile.
A year later, I discovered I had narcolepsy, and suddenly, driving became a much scarier prospect.
The possibility of falling asleep against my will during a perfectly routine afternoon drive and ending up rolling the car into a ditch... just isn't worth it.
Rising gas prices, rising maintenance costs, and a truly massive upsurge in assholes, dumbfucks driving without a license (or even knowing the rules of the road), and borderline retards talking on their mobile phones while driving make the whole thing much less palatable these days, too.
I'll be sticking to carpooling and public transportation, thank you.

I don't much care for the idea of carpooling because I would have difficulty trusting the driver. We don't have much public transportation aside from a network of buses in Las Vegas. One good thing is it's way cheap, costs like 30 bucks for a month pass and you can ride and change buses as much as you need to. However it's pretty hard to figure your route, I tried it once and all I got was a major migraine. Riding a bus is also naturally much safer even if the bus does get into an accident.
If there's a public transportation system I admire it would have to be the one in Japan. I have heard it is remarkably accurate as far as time but I have also heard that they can get very very cramped, like shoulder to shoulder cramped. I guess I wouldn't mind that though if I was shoulder to shoulder with a really cute Japanese girl, lol. Their bullet trains can take you almost anywhere in the whole region too. Sry, I didn't mean to turn my answer into another "what I like about Japan response" but I had to fit that in there.

                        It's fine.
My own region has a pretty well-developed mass transit network. Buses, light rail trains, and special on-demand shuttles for senior citizens.
Downside? It's fairly expensive. $1.75 one-way (train or bus, no transfers), $4 for a full-day pass (unlimited), with reduced fare (for children, seniors, disabled, and for all on high-ozone days) of $2. Monthly passes are $65.
As for the carpooling... It's not really hard to trust a friend to drive, so I don't mind.

I have to drive. I live out in the bush so there is NO public transport...not even a taxi. Honestly, it doesn't bug me tbh. The only thing that annoys me is when I go into the city and there is a traffic jam (I drive a manual, better fuel economy).

Driving a car is somewhat unappealing to me. On one hand, I love the prospect of being able to go wherever I wanted to and blare incessant J-Pop from my car speakers. On the other, I'm terrified of my being able to fall asleep easily, the claustrophobic confines of an automobile, and constantly fearing I missed some minute detail while driving that will come back to bite me.
Yet I found an alternative and far more enjoyable method of transportation in my scooter (mo-ped, if that sounds too kiddy). I feel at ease because I have more sense of control and because I do not feel trapped in by metal walls or rows of leather seats.
I suppose the low gas and "hipster" factors would also have something to do with it ;)

Getting back on topic, I don't have a driver's license so I am unable to comment much. However, I would think driving is a lot more useful in a large country than a small one, because it enables one to get around with ease, especially if the public transportation system is not well-devloped.

THe only thing what disturbs me is when some people are driving awfully slower than the limit is...Those breakers can easily kill all my fun.

I love what I drive. Cars are some of the most complex things most of us use on a daily basis. And usually nary a thought is given to just how much engineering went into the design of whatever car you happen to drive.
But that's just me being a nerdy gearhead I guess.

Yeah I like driving. It sure beats walking everywhere and my car isn't a gas guzzler so I don't spend all that much money on gas. Maybe $20 every 2 weeks.

I enjoy driving. I hit the racetracks every now and then as well. The more you know about you and your car's limits the better off you are.

I like driving stick. it's way more fun than automatic transmission. i also think stick makes me concentrate on driving a little more.
on the other hand, I would much rather ride than drive. i like to let my mind wander and just look out the window.
i think the biggest problem i have is the other drivers. the other day, someone honked and flipped me off for slowing down in a school zone. i think licences are way to easy to get. i also think most traffic laws should have harsher penalties. i had to do a weekend work program instead of going to jail, and there i met people with many DUI's who were still driving. one guy had >10. one day though, the sherif's were waiting after work. they busted and towed a bunch of them. i laughed.

I have no preference to driving or walking. I regularly walk the 30 minutes to work and have no problems with doing so.
Driving I have no problem with either.
And I do agree it is way to easy for people to get their liscenes.
I mean seriously, I almost crashed into someone before because they don't understand that when an intersection is unmarked, the person driving straight has the right of way over the person turning.
Then there was one instance where a person started to pull out onto a busy street, WITHOUT LOOKING LEFT!
I had to quickly change lanes to avoid smashing and killing the idiot.

What do you drive?
Anyway, I drive 45 minutes (an hour in the evenings) to and from work every day. I love it. I listen to the radio to catch up on what's going on in the world (which apparently only consists of Lindsay Lohan and Lebron James lately), or I listen to music, or audio books (love these now). Or I can just space out and think about things. It's just a time of peace for me, I'm not one of those people who get agitated by the way other people drive, so I don't get all stressed out.
i ❤ driving : )

Sadly my car takes premium gas... ;_; my poor wallet.
I agree, distracted drivers suck... I can't stand when people text and talk while driving, let alone while in the car! It's just so silly and dangerous...
I love going on long drives, especially. The two-year school I just graduated from this spring was up in Vermont, so that made for lovely driving home and back for breaks.
Most of all, I love driving and singing along with my music. My usual favorites are my Runaways "Live in Japan" album, Jefferson Airplane "Worst of", and of course, the lovely Lady Gaga. <3
