Folk Metal

I thought I'd start up a thread to discuss folk metal and different folk metal bands people on Fakku! like. Granted that maybe a small section of the Fakku community, it would still be nice to explore this genre even more.
Two bands I really enjoy listening to that are folk metal are Agalloch and Equilibrium.
Agalloch is a band Portland, Oregon (in the U.S; my state nontheless). In my opinion, they have a nice melodic sound that isn't bombastic. The music is really mellow and tame, which really works for them. With that said, my favorite album from them has to be Ashes Against The Grain. It's a nice, solid album that just sweeps over me every time I listen to it.
Equilibrium is another band I like that hails from Deutschland (Germany). They have additional instruments added onto their music that really drives it. For example, their song Mana from the Sagas album has a pan flute in it that I immediately pay attention to throughout the 16 minute song.
Anyways.... yeah post up different folk metal music and discuss why you like it. Basic purpose of this thread.

Lots of good folk metal out there.I totally forgot about Alestorm, although they're more power metal than folk metal. The other ones I haven't really listened to, but plan on listening to.

Arkona, I think that's the only one I know of.That's a pretty good song you posted. I like it because it's pretty mellow while having a nice build up. I'll check out more of their music tonight.
OT: I listened to the Marrow of the Spirit album from Agalloch, again, and was very fitting as I played Skyrim. I love listening to folk metal while playing fantasy games (Elder Scrolls mainly).

It's the kind of metal i like most.
I have no word to explain how much i enjoy listening it, gives to me such great sensation which starts from my ears and moves throughout the body.
There are a lot of very good bands out there but my favourite ones are Elvenking and Eluveitie.

I have yet to listen to Elvenking or Eluveitie; I'll download them eventually. I've been listening to Arkona. Arkona's music is just epic. I haven't enjoyed a band's music so much in a quite a while. I've been swept up into something else.

I'm a bit more of a melodeath person, but I appreciate the folk elements that creep in the songs here and there within this sub-genre.
Some of the stuff I dig from Wintersun, Insomnium and Kalmah
Also, thanks to this song below, I now want to down a bottle of beer.

I like me some melodeath. I listen to Children of Bodom mostly, but I like new suggestions. Also, that beer song is awesome; just saying.
OT: I just started listening to the Turisas album Stand Up and Fight. I'm diggin' The March of the Varangian Guard. Experimenting with more folk metal is doing something for me.

Subway to Sally would come to mind. It's folk rock with metal and gothic elements mixed in. Does that count?
Some YT links, I guess.
Their lyrics are beautiful, haha.

Turisas are pretty good to me, but personally i don't like their last album that much...
Some track are nice but not as much as The Varangian Way ones wich i truly find enjoyable, the feelings that it gives are definetly better compared to those from Stand up and Fight.
Really like it

I'll agree with you that The Varangian Way sounds a lot better than Stand Up and Fight. Their last album seemed more mainstream friendly than the Varangian Way, but I prefer that over Stand Up and Fight.

Yeah, I'd count them as folk metal because they have the folk influence in their music, but I love how they mix it with goth. I'm gonna download some of their albums to listen to. Kleid aus Rosen is just fantastic.

Alas, another COB fan! Seeing how it's been awhile since I've run into one, this makes me happy.
Also, Turisas is a new listen for me, and I'm liking what I hear so far.
Going back to melodeath for a moment, I'll just leave this here.

In Flames is pretty good from what I've heard. Surprised that you've come across few COB fans recently, they're fairly popular still. The album The Varangian Way from Turisas is much better than Stand Up and Fight, in my opinion.

I've been listening to this band for the past week or so. All I have to say is that they rocked my world. Fantastic composition and performance. I can't stop listening to them. Here's a few of my favorites from them:

I love how you linked an entire album as one of your favorites by them. I fucking love eluveitie, have all their albums, and im finally going to see them live next month, so fucking pumped. They mix the folk instruments into metal soooooo well.
Heres a few more folk bands to try:
Elvenking - they're alot more power metally than most folk bands, but they have some really good songs
Spoiler:
Moonsorrow - fairly similar to eluvietie, not as melodic, and they have a more black metally feel to their sound, but deff worth a listen.
Spoiler:
Tyr - saw them live once with amon amarth and fell in love with them.

XD I thought that was the title song. Whoops, oh well.
All of Eluveitie's albums are really good though, and they just seem to just focus their sound even more. Truly a talented band (I guess having eight members actually help them out). Anyways, I really like their music.
I've already have Elvenking on my computer, but I like a few of their albums (the ones I've listened to). I'll probably check out Moonsorrow and Tyr more, haven't heard much from them.

Figured I'd pitch in with some more folk metal music. Wintersun finally released Time I about a week or so ago after years of different setbacks. There's more melodeath and symphonic stuff going down in comparison on this release, still- I'd definitely say it's worth a listen.
Here's a clip of "Time" from the bonus DVD for your listening pleasure.
