Get an iTouch or Get a new battery for my ipod

Ok so my ipod has a battery problem. Everytime I plug in the charger it works fine. But if I unplug it, it turns off. I heard that I can order a battery online and pop open the ipod with a mastercard and fix it like that. If that is true does anyone know where I can go about buying it from? Thats not ebay?
And I kinda want an itouch so I can listen to music again and because of all the perks it has (like jailbreaking it).
Thanks in advance
Oh yea btw my ipod has 80gb and i think its 5th gen.

If yours is iPod Classic 80gb, keep it and get a new battery. Getting a new iPod when you have that awesome device is not necessary.

If you live near a Toys R Us, they're having a special this week: Trade in your old iPod and get up to 100$ off a new one. So you could just up it to an iTouch, for quite a bit cheaper than usual. If not, I still suggest the iTouch.

Get a cheap battery for iPod Classic.
Go to Toys R Us
Trade with iPod Touch
Once you get the iPod Touch, I'll tell you some cool gizmos available for the iPod.

I'll tell you from my personal experience with the ipodtouch4, it's much more entertaining than a normal ipod. The retina display is quite amazing as well, and yes yougain the benefits of jailbreaking (though I'm not sure if the latest fw of the ipod touch 4 can be jb'd yet).
the only downside is its low memory compared to the classic, but you'll find it a much more practical and fun device to have around.

Is the ipod touch 4 the cheapest one? If I get that I plan on buying it cheap.
EDIT @ Kumuri: I'm not very familiar with e bay. Also I have to buy an ipod opener?

iPods are built as strong as my penis a brick so it'll be very difficult to take it apart. Even if you do get to open the iPod, it'll leave marks. Trading it with Toys R Us will be harder if that happens.

definitely not the cheapest right now as it's the newest one, though you can probably get an older maybe used ipod touch online

The opener is available at ifixit. The guide that they offer is easy enough to follow.

I'm probably going to just keep the ipod I got. But before I start shelling out money for this, am I right when I say its a battery issue?

Nope it shows a plug. Btw when I unplug it turns off. Hmm that was strange. When I unplugged it, it left an image when it turned off. The main screen. When its plugged in and I start switching to other menus it turns off sometimes.

my only advice is to keep it if you use alot of memory since ipod touch with alot of GB will be too expensive for the hassle. I have in 8GB itouch which i love because it's the only portable device i have that does everything "little black box". I am running out of space and do no know what to do....you could get both? depending if you need something like the itouch for other features such as internet browsing, apps etc

That pretty much narrows it down to two things, either the iPod is having problems charging the battery, or the battery is dead. It's safe to assume that the battery is dead.
There's a high chance you will break your iPod if you just try and take it apart yourself without doing a bit of research first, find a tutorial on how to replace the battery in your iPod tailored for your iPod's generation.
