Studio Ghibli President Koji Hoshino announced on Sunday that studio founder and world-renowned anime filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki will "retire from the production of feature-length films."
This could easily mean full-length films ONLY. He might do smaller films or even series from time to time.
Also, apparently he pulled a retirement stunt before, around Princess Mononoke. Only time will really tell if he's serious.

He's pulled the retirement card before. I'm guessing he'll still help quite a bit during projects but due to his age he'll stop directing major projects and such.

The only movie I saw from him was Princess M and that was pretty good. Can't comment on his other works and I'm not interested enough to check them out. Anyways, we probably won't see the last of him, and if we did, then oh well.

1986 with Laputa, 1992 with Porco Rosso, 1997 Mononoke Hime, Howl's Moving Castle 2004, Ponyo 2008 and now this. lol

This is the worst news I've heard since George Carlin died.
I shall mourn the day he stops making films, for they are one of the very few things in this miserable shit world that make me smile.
