Holy loli, that's rough dood. Next time just carry some pepper spray on you and once the mugger is immobilized, set them on fire and say they were smokers. That'll teach them to mug. I'll stick with my pistol, thank you very much.

I'm a real man, I use my palms to smack down bullets and beat would be muggers to death with my fists.

Fpod really wanted me to get something to defend myself when I was working in Atlanta for a few weeks. I didn't keep the job long, because it was a total Bullshit job and I was tired of the people there.
The problem with pepper spray/stun guns is it's something you have to dig in your purse for, and I doubt someone who is trying to mug me is going to stand around and let me dig through my purse to get something out.

First off, *hugs*. Glad you're ok and that the asshat mugger did not take away anything of much value. *hugs again*
Oddly enough, even though I'm a woman who walks through "unsafe" parts of the city late at night, nothing has ever happened to me. I suppose I'm either extremely lucky (probable), extremely scary-looking (highly doubtful), or people who say it is unsafe are wusses (also probable), but whatever. People have stolen stuff from behind my back though, and in fact, it's happened recently, though the stolen items were returned after I threatened the thief.
Pony's suggestion about a hatpin is good. My innocuous self-defense item of choice is the cat keychain (kinda like this, but green). They used to have those in all sorts of colors, and one year I bought a bunch of these for all my girlfriends (and some of my cat-loving guy friends) for Christmas. Pepper spray isn't that good because it's too affected by wind.
Anyway, here's hoping they catch the mugger!

Just wear some steel toed shoes or something ladies.
Nothing says "Fuck YOU!" like a good steel backed kick to the groin.

There have been several cases of it happening to girls here at Fakku, I can count at least 3 that Ive heard from that had something like that happen...Who are they?
I mean is there a thread that says ''WERE YOU RAPED BEFORE'' or something like that? Or was it that they said it for some reason or another on a random thread?

I sometimes get a little nervous when I see really shady people at night but they always end up being decent people for some weird reason. Here's an example, I was walking down the street and I bumped into this burly rugged looking guy who looked like if you even looked at him the wrong way he'd kill you and to my surprise he turned around and said sorry I was thinking in my head "What the fuck? I thought you were going to kick my ass?" and I also said sorry it was my fault and went on my way but this seems to happen more often than not where I live.

Think about it would you honestly risk getting yourself killed or serious bodily injury for 30 bucks?
I've been mugged for far more and even less than this. It's not fun, you want my money you can have it, I'll just report my cards stolen, call the police, and you get away with maybe 50 bucks. It's not worth anyones life to try and fight for petty cash and things that can be locked out and replaced.

For some reason and its probably because I was thinking about this thread. The subject of women working late at night and having to go to their cars etc came up (we had a barbecue/gossip fest last night)
The lady who lives behind me works at Tyson on the graveyard shift
She says when the shift is over someone always walks them to their cars.
The woman to my west is a teacher and teaches night school. Same scenario.
The woman to my east works at Lowes in the warehouse Ditto
The woman two doors down get picked up by her boyfriend after work She gets off work at 11 pm
Not sure if this is because this is the south or just my neighborhood or is it all over.
@ Kalistean I checked and neither Manolo nor Nike make steel toed shoes
Maybe they should

Steel-toed Manolos would be so fabulous! Or Louboutins, for that matter. I'm thinking this Christian Louboutin pump, but with a steel tip instead of red.

The evil lady in one of those james bond movies had the right idea her shoes had a little poison blade in them
I know of a lady who had these 5 inch (12.7 cm) manolos and she ground the heel of one of them into a guys instep for grabbing her.
I still like the hat pin approach

If anyone asks suspicious like that, I always keep them at least kicking distance away from me.Cause anyone who goes out of their way to do that, is not up to any good. Ever. Stepping in front of someone is a confrontation.
That's why you need to be ready to break someone's shit without feeling guilt. If someone attacks you, regardless of their motive, you have the right to defend yourself.

next time try to aim to the throat, that will teach him about stealing beer from others.Actually, it's better to go for the eyes. It doesn't take a whole lot of force to rupture one and, unlike a throat injury, it's not something that can heal.

I pack steel my brother and i look like a broke thug so every one moves out of the way... just a nice dude with a knife. You don't even need a knife, all you need is the will to survive. It might sound stupid, but if someone grabs you and you bite off a chunk of flesh, people are gonna think twice about fucking with you.

I'm not saying they WON'T break, but they don't shatter like the moves say they do.That's even better. It would be awesome to break a bottle over a person's head, but in a serious situation, fracturing their skull would be more satisfying.

Even if one lives in a relatively safe country, never take things for granted. Since I don't have much experience about the situation overseas, I guess it would be good to be aware of one's surroundings, which could possibly lower the chances of getting attacked.

Used to do stuff
Never been mugged but knowing me I probably wouldn't take the guy seriously and get myself killed.
I'm an easy target. Luckily I live in a farm area where this kind of stuff never really happens and if I ever go the city I always walk around with groups.

Me and a couple of friends almost got mugged once. It was pretty late, like around 2:30am - 3:00am, we got a little hungry so we went out to the nearby 7/11. When we walked out we notice two guys across the street walking towards us. They met us halfway in the crosswalk and told us to empty our pockets. We told them that we just spent what we had at the 7/11. I guess they didn't care because one of them reached for my friends pocket and my friend told him that we don't have a damn thing. So we walked towards the gas station across from the 7/11, the two guys gave up on trying to take our stuff when we got in view of the employee working there, they walked off yelling some stuff at us. Then we called the cops, they showed up 30mins later, turns out they actually searched the area while we waited for them. Then we got a ride back to my friend's house and acted like nothing happened.
