I was mugged

My neighborhood is so safe that my friend's parents actually leave all the doors unlocked. I don't though, Just a habit because the place I used to live at had a lot of weirdos.

I've never been mugged ..I have a cheap ass knuckle I bought a few years ago..I bought two actually ..But I dropped one on the ground and it broke XD...Now I have just one..I would use it but I'm suspecting it's gonna shatter the second I hit someone with it...It's like they sold me a disposable camera..Anyway..people with bags are easier targets I suppose..It's a lot harder to reach in someones pocket..especially if it's closed..

The problem with pepper spray/stun guns is it's something you have to dig in your purse for, and I doubt someone who is trying to mug me is going to stand around and let me dig through my purse to get something out.
It kinda defeats the point if it's not easily accessible, so carrying it somewhere where you have to search for it (like a purse or bag) is not recommended. Pocket ftw.

Pockets for women's clothing are either nonexistent, or only for decoration. I hate that about women's clothing. *goes off to yell at some designers*

I sometimes get a little nervous when I see really shady people at night but they always end up being decent people for some weird reason. Here's an example, I was walking down the street and I bumped into this burly rugged looking guy who looked like if you even looked at him the wrong way he'd kill you and to my surprise he turned around and said sorry I was thinking in my head "What the fuck? I thought you were going to kick my ass?" and I also said sorry it was my fault and went on my way but this seems to happen more often than not where I live.Well....I guess I 'sort of' look shady, to some. So we're not all bad.
I'm constantly told I look pissed.
But word to the wise: keep your distance and be careful. Honestly, its better to be safe than to be sorry.
If you're in a neighborhood (I assume you're white) that's poor and you see some shady characters, keep your distance. I mean, everytime *I* see a white person around here, I think 'huh, wonder what he/she is doing here'. Likewise, I can only imagine what the crooks must be thinking.
If a white person, at night, sees me in a large coat and a hoodie on, I wouldn't hold it against them if they stepped away a bit.
It's not so much the race of the area, as it is the social and economic 'niche' of the area. But, rule of thumb: don't ever be outside after 9 or so. And don't go near a group that is acting suspiciously. Meaning, under shaded areas, silence in a group, or stares (even out of the corner of the eye) are a no-no.

I almost got mugged once.
Long story short. One of the muggers was a friend in high school. Got a good laugh out of it after.
Another story. My friend was walking home from work one night. Three people tried to mug him. My friend held his arms up like he was surrendering. One of the muggers, a complete dumbass, tried to reach into my friends pocket to grab his wallet, while holding a knife to his chest. When he got close enough, my friend grabbed him, and turned the knife back onto his muggers throat. He threatened that he would slit the guys throat and it would be completely justified in law since it was self-defense. The other bitches ran away. He knocked the guy out and then called the cops. The guy turned out to be like only 16 years old, and he apparently ratted out his two other friends.

I have been mugged before.
I was in 7Th grade and I was walking home at 3pm in the middle of the day on a busy street when an African american kid in 9Th or so grade randomly jumps out from behind a parked car ans punched me across the face, kicked me in the stomach when I was down. he stole the 25 bucks i had from my mom for my birthday gift, my books, open bottle of soda an the pencil i had in my other pocket for some reason. and nobody going by even stopped to help me. i didn't have a cell phone back then so i had to walk back down that very same street to my mothers work to drive me to the hospital ad then to the police. and to this day that kid has yet to be caught. So because of that day i carry a switchblade at my side everywhere i go just to feel safer

Ever since some prick tried to mug me (I was on vacation in Paris), I've always carried either a knife or nightstick on me.

Good reflexes could very well serve you a whole lot better than any amount of self-defense training.

I actually think they got the guy when he tried mugging an plain clothes detective. Atleast I hope it was him.
As for the area it's not the best but it isn't the worst. It's a lower middle class/college student living area.

There is a difference between being beaten and/or stabbed (being mugged) and being robbed with a dash of physical violence.
Unless there were any witnesses it's unlikely they'll find this guy while actually working on your case. More likely he'll commit another offense and get caught. In any case, even if they do, anything that was stolen from you will be kept as evidence until he faces a sentence, which can take a year or two.
I went through a similar experience a few weeks ago, here's hoping you get your items back. You could also ask /b/ to look for him like I did.

Never been mugged. Saw a kid return from a skatepark and he was mugged there. He was about 12 years old. I never really went to those kinds of places and avoided staying out late alone. Yeah, you can call my life boring, but at least I dont get mugged. Also, Im pretty sure if the other guy aint over 200 pounds and doesnt have a knife I would be able to take him on or at least get away. Guess my self-esteem will really plummet if I get into a situation like that.
