Immortality (remade)
0
Looks like the topic was lost... But it was a fun conversation so I am re-posting it. It was based of of this quote:
"Those who long for immortality often don't know what to do on a rainy day"
and the question posed:
Q: If you could become immortal would you?
Some people say yes others say no.
I would want to be immortal but not invincible so if I ever got tied of life there could be an end as if the universe ended I would not want to float endlessly in space for eternity.

To me it seems the problem most people have with immortality is that they'd live longer than their loved ones. My problem would be if I could even fit in with society after I live longer than 100 years. I'd imagine I'd still look 20-40 years old but would people even take me serious if I drop a bomb like I'm 200 years old. If it didn't matter than I guess I would.

I would become immortal if I could, there's no doubt in my mind. My family would live in my memories, and what I recorded of their lives and who they were as people before I forgot. Because that seems logical, you know? We would probably start to replace older memories with newer ones, as is normal.
I want to see the innovation of a hundred years time, to see what the sky looks like a thousand years from now. To see civilization fall and rise from the ashes. It would be lonely, but the chances are you are going to outlive your loved ones, especially your parents anyways. You would have many decades to prepare yourself for the death of everyone you ever loved or cared for starting from when they start to notice they're growing older and you're not.
As far as also being invincible is concerned, why the hell not? I'd be a god king to the mankind of the future. I would float endlessly through the void until the universe sparked again, or I found my way into a new one. Time would be irrelevant to you after a few hundred years anyways.

Hmm...
At what age will you stop aging and become immortal?
Or will you just keep aging forever and look stupidold?
Eventually someone will recognize that you don't grow. Then the government will get involved, and you'll turn into a test subject.

No, as much as I would like to live just to see how the future turns out I like that life has a beginning and an end. Makes life more special and worth living.

Wouldn't you feel lonely if you know u can't share eternity with someone.

Immortality.
That sort of lifespan appeals to me. Living forever and seeing everything. What's not to love about that?

you can't have such a great power without consequences or repercussions. What would the person granting immortality gain from giving another one immortality besides watching someone else suffer eternity with him?
In any case I would also pick immortality, I wouldn't mind living to the day they manage to make Mobile suits real

I would pick Immortality, even though I'll lose my family & friends but I can see the world change... And at my immortality state, maybe I'll be a historian, witnessing what happened to the world and keep it as history.

If I'm the only one allowed to be immortal, then no. I'd rather die with the ones I love than live alone for the rest of my life. Don't give me any crap about "starting new each generation". When your loved ones die, there's enough pain to live with. Starting over anew only assures that the pain will resurface again.

If I would be one of those immortals that still lived after their head has been sliced off, I wouldn't want to be one. I can't imagine myself wandering the world for thousands of years, everyone I begin to know soon vanishing before my eyes. Everything around changing very slowly and things you used to think were amazing begin to bore you, soon life itself becomes a burden to you and you can do nothing about it. It feels suffocating just thinking about it.

Then again, to most people a life without love is no life at all.
However, I am not one of those people, also Sanada's idea of being a historian and stuff as an immortal is quite a good idea

True, a historian would be interesting, but I've found making history to be more interesting than recording history. Plus, what if, even after being immortal, you still age? Isn't that going to be a problem as well?

well, of course if you also age while you're immortal that'd make it quite problematic and plus more noticeable that you're immortal.
So, of course, if those were the prerequisites I'd pick no

About losing your beloved ones, they will still alive on your memories, that's why I'm picking historian if I become an Immortal. Call me weird but I want to see how large my family tree after my generation. And when I become historian maybe I'll write about my generations.
Besides, humans technology always amuses me. I want to see how the world develop in few centuries.
