You're missing the entire point of the iPad. It's not meant to be a replacement product for a PC or a phone.I could have sworn Steve Jobs claimed that it would do just that.
See the first image in this thread. -_-;; He couldn't have made the role of the iPad any clearer, I think.

People who are willing to spend $499 on this thing are not "idiots" since I doubt "idiots" can have that much money just lying around. I can think of a way:
"Moooooooooom! I want an iPad!"
I don't deny the possibility. XD
Although it's sorta stupid for a kid to get this thing...I mean you can't fit it inside a pocket, so I think they'd go for an iPod touch instead.

Maybe not Stevey-boy, but definitely some of the other people.

For me it's this
"Honey, can we buy an Ipad"
"Ipad, whats that you pervert? and before you say anything, NO"

The Apple Ipad is a joke. It is doing nothing but heading backwards in the tablet market. No innovation, no new software capabilities, no new hardware capabilities and over priced at that too. Try and defend it all you want Imperial, but you've got no argument except that it is an "Apple" product
Would much rather have these two tablets shown at CES. But no, you've never heard of them because they aren't APPLE. Where's the praise and justification these tablets deserve for actually doing something in their respective markets? You see the Ipad getting praise for doing nothing and being overpriced. Can someone tell me why that is?

On a more serious note, I don't see the point in one of these, aside from the whole "Man it looks pretty cool" thing.
But that's $500+ out of my pocket that I'm not willing to spend... I'll just stick with my laptop..

How stupid. Every time Apple comes out with some stupid peice of crap that nobody needs, every teenager in America NEEDS to have it. This thing is just a bulkier, shittier Ipod Touch. Either get that, or get the Macbook Air. The combination of the 2 with none of the good points of either is a waste. Plus, its ugly as sin!

The iPad is the very last of the tablets that I would get. It has far too many restrictions and is a big mistake in my opinion. right now, the one I am most interested in would be the HP Slate. It supports every format and has all the necessary plugins you would expect as well as running on Windows 7. It is more then likely what I am going to buy.

I've pretty much said this 2 times already in this topic but reading the comments, clearly a lot of you read them, so I'll just leave a shortened, more condensed one here.
Windows 7's Multi-touch support is a joke. Disregarding that, it's still a OS that's based on using a mouse + keyboard as the input devices. Apps that are made for Windows 7 will not be made with pure Multi-touch in mind. If you'd spend $600 on something like the HP Slate you may as well spend something less and get a more capable Netbook, or just add $200 and get a refurbished MacBook which has 2 times the specs of everything.
The purpose of the iPad is to bring advanced Multi-touch onto a large screen. If you want to see what some of the potential, then just watch the keynote before blurting out comments. Get it now? Good.
And don't even get started about Multi-touch on Android.

I do believe that some applications will be made with multi-touch in mind, and windows 7 is continuously trying to improve their support for touch screen support so the problems will probably go away after a while.
I would also like to know what you have against android, especially considering it is a relatively young OS that is still improving allot with every update.

I have totally nothing against Android. However I wouldn't call its App Store that much younger than iPhone OS's, and the difference is there.
When the Android Marketplace start selling apps that are actually good and as polished as iPhone ones, I'll consider switching. I've been on my first gen iPhone since 2007 and I think I'll switch phones this year. If things remain as it is I'll probably just buy the new iPhone coming out in a few months.
If Android has better things to offer by then, I won't hesitate to switch to an Android phone. I mean the Nexus is pretty good (better than 3GS hardware wise), but when I see how premature Android is, I put off the thought of buying it...and many people do the same thing, thus the very poor sales.
OK, I'm totally off topic now. -_- Back to iPad.

And kill people who will further boost investment opportunities in AAPL?Well, I just thought you'd kill the people who came off as anti-Apple but I figured putting too many words in it wouldn't work as well as a joke.

From 3.5" to 9.7" is innovation, especially if you watched the Keynote. I think iWork perfectly demonstrates the potential it has.Once again, innovation where? It can't just be the differing sizes, can it?

You're missing the entire point of the iPad. It's not meant to be a replacement product for a PC or a phone. Take this example:You spent the day at work, using your iPhone for the Internet on the go and sorting out the daily essentials (there's pretty much an app for everything, iPhone owners should understand) and the MacBook Pro for all the essential stuff you do (word processing etc). You get home, put your iPhone on its stand that syncs with your Mac Pro, and then pick up your iPad, sit on the couch, read and reply to some E-Mails, check out some RSS feeds, check out some of your daily-visited websites, read some books while listening to music. You might download some stuff to your iPad. Later you might head over to the Mac Pro for some gaming, work etc. and at the same time sync the iPad. At night you pick up your iphone and pop it next to your bed in another cradle as your alarm.
You really shouldn't have constructed that situation with the MacBook and the iPhone in it. I like how you mention "word processing" as an essential thing and associate it with the MacBook instead of the iPad, and mention "reading books while listening to music" when there's no multitasking yet implemented. And how you state the ye olde "there's an app for everything" which makes no sense to mention in a situation between the iPhone and the iPad since you basically told me that the iPhone is all anyone will really need.

Yes, it is a luxury gadget, but I'd gladly shell out the money for it and I believe so will many other people. We'll wait for the sales when this product lands. Also, the iPad with its screen size will inspire countless apps that will do things none of us expected as I said. We've had touchscreens, tablets, multi-touch, etc. for a while now ... so how is a mere change in size going to change anything? How is it supposed to do something unexpected when it doesn't do anything that's actually different from what has come before?
ImperialX wrote...
Just you wait and see. Clearly you didn't see the iWork demo at the Keynote. This thing's potential is huge.I saw it. Yeah, not impressive in the least. The "potential" might still be there, but that no one has tapped into it in a useful way yet, leaves me (though this goes without saying) quite skeptical.

The thing is, I don't see anything "unrealistic" or "non-practical" about this device. I understand that the iPad will not be appealing to all consumers, but what product is? It's just that the iPad's appeal targets a smaller niche. The real question is: Is that niche big enough?
ImperialX wrote...
Again, you shouldn't say if the product is "good" or "bad". It might be "bad" for you, but it's "good" for others. People who are willing to spend $499 on this thing are not "idiots" since I doubt "idiots" can have that much money just lying around. In case you didn't notice it yet, I'm trying to bring your expectations of this device to a realistic level (for my amusement of course). I haven't judged the device itself yet. Rather, I'm judging Apple's decision to release such a device, which I believe has an exceptionally small market, as a poor maneuver. The iPad appears to have massive overlap with the iPhone and tablets and netbooks and eReaders etc. It won't overturn tablets. It is not likely to overturn netbooks. It cannot be placed into one's pocket. So I guess that just leaves it to be an eReader.
ImperialX wrote...
If you don't like it, then don't buy it. Simple as that.I can safely say that I hate that kind of "logic". It's like saying, "Well, since you don't like this device, you aren't in its market, so all the negative aspects of it that you point out aren't true!" Give me a break.

It's probably been mentioned before, but the fact that it runs of the iphone OS is the worst part about it for me. the price is the only good thing about it in my opinion.

Will it blend?
