So I've turned 18 recently and I've come to a horrible realization; I've never had a girlfriend.
Not for a lack of trying of course, it's just my social angst and deep seated depression has just made me terrified of rejection. I'm working on i with my psychologist now but I'm wondering, are there people like me out there who are 18+ and never had a girlfriend?

define like you, in what way, the not having a girlfriend and being 18, or the fear of rejection to that extent?

If there's not even a bit of risk involved, you gain nothing.Being terrified of rejection is worse than not experiencing the whole new world of love and affection.
Go out there and listen to what your heart is saying and not your dick.

Dude, it's not that uncommon. I don't think it's even strange.
Call me oldfashioned, but I find it a bit strange if someone is fifteen years old and has had tons of girlfriends/boyfriends. Relationships are for adults, why hurry?
...Hopefully I didn't insult anyone with that. That is not my intention. *apologizes in advance*

Being single might be comfortable, but you won't get a chance to experience the feeling you get when your girlfriend/boyfriend or someone you like smiles and you just fall for them.

Oh darn, I will be sure to reflect on that feeling while descending a hill on a mountain bike at over 25mph.

You don't have an AvPD, do you?

Same here, I intend to do that too or should I say I had already planned it in my life.

23, never even came close to having one.
Yeah, I have a fear of rejection as well, plus I rarely get to know new people anyway. Deadly combination?

Well, I have had a girlfriend but I'm going to give my 2 cents on this.
When I was 12, I got rejected pretty bad by this girl I liked. She ended up dating this guy that seemed to point out that I got rejected every time I saw them and that got me depressed for awhile to the point where I was afraid of being rejected. That rejection hurt more than any physical pain I felt in life to the point I cried when I thought about it (yes I was a wussy when I was a kid). Fucked up my childhood and maybe that's why I'm the guy I am now. But I was pretty much alone with low self-confidence and was scared to be rejected up until I was about 16-17.
Thankfully, I had some good friends and teammates (basketball + wrestling) that really helped boost my self esteem and confidence and I started talking to girls again eventually meeting my ex-girlfriend (last year when I was 17). Our relationship lasted 6-8 months and the break up was pretty bad but I didn't feel as in pain as the first rejection.
So, what I'm trying to say is, even though your 18 and you've never had a girlfriend, once you get things back into shape with the psychologist, begin making friends with people who aren't assholes and get your life back into shape. Even though your starting late doesn't mean you'll never have a girlfriend, it'll come with time and you have to believe in yourself. Don't put yourself down because everyone out there will probably do it for you.

26 and not even close. I don't know why, perhaps I creep people out or come across with an "unapproachable" aura. Women look at me like I'm the dog shitting in the neighbor's yard, amusing for a moment, then just background scenery. It's not like I'm trying to be anti-social here either... I left that crap behind in my mid teenage years.

Well I am 20 and have not had a girlfriend, It is mostly due to my deep hatred toward
the shithole of a town called Penticton which caused me to not want to get into dating so I would not have to stay in that town, I moved back to my hometown in late 2009 and am still getting my life on track first before I put myself on the market.
