Itching for a new car.
What car should I get?
0
So I have this itch for a new car (been going on for a while). I plan on getting one at the end of the year or beginning of next year as I'll have my current note paid off and some money saved for a nice down payment. There are several cars that I am looking at and for the moment, I have a convertible bug that is beating me down with a kendo stick. So on the poll, I have a list of cars that I am looking at. My budget is around $25k out the door, so it works out to be about $22k for the asking price. If the car is not on the poll, feel free to make a suggestion. I'll post a response on whether or not I considered it or not.

If you get an Audi from those model years, do some research on reliability. Some recent Audi/VW models have really bad electrical systems and cost a fortune to keep running. I don't think you can get an (affordable) Audi convertible aside from the TT. Here are some more similar two-seater convertibles for the hell of it:
Honda S2000
Mazda MX-5 (yes, it has the reputation, but fun as hell)
Pontiac Solstice
Whatever you do, you should check around on car forums for that specific car to get an idea of what maintenance will cost on all of them. Better to find out now rather than buy one and find out the owner sold it because it needs $5000 worth of work on it.

2003 - 2008 Audi S4 (Auto or 6-Speed)
I chose this one but this is mostly based on my preferences. I prefer the look of it as well as its performance. Not a total car fan so I won't know completely much, however my friend owns this car and it's pretty nice in my opinion.

Definitely not autoshifting, it sucks. I would personally pick the one with lowest gas consumption.

Buy a Panzer tank. They have a good safety rating.I would but the MPG would suck. Also, parts I hear are a bitch.

My roommate had an S2k. It's a great car, just not my cup of tea.
MX-5 is too small for me, but I did thought about it. Test drove one and loved everything except the lack of space.
Pontiac Solstice is nice, but if I were to get one, it would have to be the Redline.
I did post my poll on other forums (car and non-car) and I wanted to get a large range of options before I sank some cash on a car that I will have to live with for at least 3 years. I also did factor in the cost of ownership on each of the cars and I can swing it without any issues.

AE86. Then ride it down a few Touge's for the next 5 years and you're good to goSorry, I don't carry Tofu around as my job. :)
On a more serious note, I would prefer to have a newer car. HIDs and comfy, leather seats have spoiled me.

Okay, sounds like you want a comfortable coupe and not a roadster. Maybe check out the Infiniti G35 or G37. It's the same platform as the 350Z but more of a luxury version. Some other popular luxury compacts at that level are the Lexus IS and BMW 3-series, but if you're asking around then you've probably heard them already.

Personally I'd go with something American made, if you are living in the state's because the price of maintenance on foreign made cars(in my experience) is a bitch, but personally go with what you want, a budget of 25k out the door can get you a decent car anyway you look at it. It's you who are going to be driving it, but my best advice is don't just set yourself to one type of car look at everything out there. Though personally I'd say get a new Chevrolet Camaro 2010. But that's just me talking.
Last time I bought a car, I looked at everything ended up buying a Jeep Wrangler X Edition with a rag top. The gas millage sucks and it's cold as fuck in the winter when the heater hasn't gotten hot yet but I haven't regretted it yet.

I don't know shit about cars so I'm just going to offer you some advice. Don't just go for looks read about the car you want first to understand it better, always inspect the car you are looking to buy to make sure it's working as it should, and always ask question of the person selling the car to you so that you have all the possible information you could have.

I looked at the G35 and G37s; G35s are a possible idea, but the G37s are a bit high in price ATM though they might come down by the end of the year. As for BMW 3-Series, I looked into those as well. A 330i would be very reasonable in terms of cost, performance, comfort, and price. Anything based on the E9x is either too pricey (e.g. 335i convertible) or too slow (328i). Lexus IS cars are another possibility; however, the IS 250 AWD is just too slow and the IS 350 is getting up there in price, but still reasonable.

I have nothing against American cars; I love the 2010 Camaro but new, they are still a tad bit pricey as well. I really do want to find either a GTO or a G8 GT but they are harder to find.

Keep the suggestions coming, no matter how flame-ful they might be. :)

Why not the Impreza/Evo duo? Not the STi or GSR models which easily cost 30k+ but the lower WRX and Ralliart models? They cost around the price range you suggested and their all weather capability plus turbocharged powerplants leaves little to be desired. If you opt for the Impreza go for the 2008 model or later as they got some upgrades compared to earlier models or so I heard. Plus have you thought about the M3? The E46 version from '01 to '06. They can be had for around 25k in decent condition.

No way on Earth would I ever get a Beetle. My dad had one and the only good thing he said about it was that he could replace parts on it quick. :-/

Chariot bro; real men use them.I know, something about Charlton Heston using one that does seem to appeal to me. Maybe I just don't want some Romans coming along side my chariot and try to stab my wheels off.

Plus everyone and their mom has a Subaru here. Evos have the same issue here. E46 M3s are nice, but track-tuned suspension makes not for a long distance cruiser.

I have a 1986 (Z31) and 1990 (Z32) 300ZX as my project car and it's such a bitch to work on as well as it is NOT a chick magnet. Something about the late 80's and 90's just doesn't sit right with girls these days. Might have something to do with it being a pornographer's car. :S
