Japanese Idol Shaves Head for Sex Scandal

AKB48 member Minegishi Minami shaves her head in plea for her job as an idol.
What are your thoughts about this?
From the country where I learned some of the most bizaare fetishes don't you think this is ironic.

Yeah this probably belongs in Random, although you could probably expand.
OT: So these celebrities not only have to deal with the paparazzi, but angry fans as well. I remember hearing something similar to this when the VA of Haruhi(TMoHS) was found being snooped on or something. I know there's a big cultural difference but these legitimately angry fans should probably best shoved to a corner.

During the WW2, those French who slept with Nazi soldiers gotten their head shaved and their cheeks painted with swastikaz.
So I guess that's nothing new!
Also shaving your head meant something else back in the ancient days of Japan.

Its her hair. She can do whatever she wants with it if she finds it appropriate.
Everyone has his/her own way of shwoing regret.

It's her way of atonement. I fully respect this. This much I understand.
But why the reason for this is even seen as a problem is the part I find insane.

I also don't really see how it's that big a deal. But hey, morals are different in other countries. Just take the whole shoes thing as an example. Shoes shouldn't be worn a house in Japan, but some people in the US don't care either way.

I think her fans in general were more supportive and never asked her to do something so extreme. What kind of sadistic fan would want a cute girl to cut off all her hair?
It seems like their management is a bunch of douchebags. Told her to cut her hair then dump her from the group. How can they treat girls like this and then strong arm the media all the time? They pretty much ruined her entertainment career. Someone needs to tell them to stop making Japan look bad. Honestly their whole system is like an "idol" sweatshop where most members are underpaid trying to climb to the faces of the group.

From what I understand of the situation is, she was sleeping with someone and was found out, and in order to plea to her fans and to atone for actions, she cut off her hair.
I don't really find this situation respectful. Idol's have extremely high expectations from their fans and the media, they pretty much are unable to have lives themselves and have to give themselves to the fanbase.
There was some outrage a while ago with one of the K-ON voice actresses having extremely pissed off fans because she got into a relationship with some man.
What makes this so disrespectful is that the woman can't even 'let go' so to speak in the privacy of her own home without being ridiculed as some awful person. That the expectations and judgements are so harsh and raised so high she feels the need she needs to chop off her hair to gain 'forgiveness' over an action that's not necessarily an issue.

It is fucking insane the way Japanese "idols" are expected to behave like virginal property of their fandoms.
THEY ARE PEOPLE, AND PEOPLE HAVE A RIGHT TO A PRIVATE LIFE WHICH CAN INCLUDE SEX. The fact that so many are called "ruined" or "whores" from merely being seen dating, let alone having had sex, is just enough to make me want to scream.

its kinda ridiculous if you ask me.
even more ridiculous is that the company expects her not to do anything in her private life coz its hurt the 'fans' feelings... what kinda fans do they have????

Too extreme for me, but so is the whole idea behind "idols"
I'm gonna draw on what Gizgal said and say I concur.
The kind of dehumanization that these idols are subject to, is frightening.

well why still do it when you already know the consequences. But then again, being famous is hard.. people is always on your back, always on to get you and make you fall badly!

What does it mean by "sex scandal"? Was there anything to prove that it really did happen, such as a sex video? If none, then it is just a mere assumption by the public. I somehow do understand that the Japanese people has an utmost care for their dignity, but I find her fans' reaction to the scoop as totally absurd. It should have not ended to that point.
In any case, she can still move on with her life, even before her hair grows back to its usual length.
