Just to add to the BIOS plan: If it's an old computer, it will probably be written ATA, or IDE, not SATA, but it's all the same device, the Hard Disk.

If you're not logging in because you don't know the password, turn the computer off halfway into regular shutdown, start it in "safe" mode, and log into administrator (this is a windows only solution).
Use administrator to change the password, claim it must have gotten corrupted, and use the same trick to change it back.
Or, memorize AND THEN delete a part of the startup sequence (nonessential). After spending 10 minutes fucking around, restore the line and look like some kind of computer guru.

The computers I'm "breaking" are networked. Today I discovered how to disconnect them from the network so no one can log in. Most people in my IRL life wouldn't know this trick. (It's extremely simple, just seekrit.)
I might not rely on something so simple, but most of the suggestions I received either required permissions that I didn't have, or would draw too much attention to me. Thanks to everyone that replied though!
I snuck in and disconnected my target computers this afternoon, so we'll see if my victims are able to fix it tomorrow morning.

ok heres one, take a screen capture of the desktop woth the mouse pointer hidden and make the screen capture the wall paper, ok now hit "ctrl + alt + delete" and go to task manager and go to the "processes" tab and look for "explorer.exe", end this and now and it looks like your desktop is frozen! to un do this simply hit ctrl + alt + delete and go to file "new task" and type "explorer.exe" and there you go! change the wallpaper back though.
