Making the forums a better place.

FAKKU Old Guard
Due to the response from my last thread, I thought this would be a good start.
The overall consensus is that the quality of posts on the FAKKU message boards is declining; that they've gone from well thought out posts to nonsensical dribble. If you want to post nonsense, we have an entire board dedicated to that. While I don't think this is the case 100% of the time, I have noticed a decline in quality posts over the years. I may not post all the time, but I do have an idea of where we once were as compared to where we are now. It seems to me that the only way to solve this is by more strict moderation. This once was a place where we could rely on the userbase to not violate the RULES (and actually read them, for that matter). It seems, however, that we're going to have to start enforcing that a bit more.
It's not my wish to turn this into a place where you can't feel free to post as yourself or post your thoughts. In fact, the one thing I really like about FAKKU is that it's not a site that heavily censors its users. But since it seems like the pleas put before the community as a whole to improve the quality of their posting content has gone unheard, we're going to have to start enforcing the rules to a higher degree. FAKKU is NOT 4chan. I realize that many of you hail from that site and that's all good and fine, but I like to think that here we don't need 100 masturbation threads, and others filling up with 100 posts full of arguments and name-callings. We shouldn't have to come to the violators and ask them to stop.
We have on this site what's known as a "Reporting" system. This is something that will help us in making the forums a better place as a whole. This is used every once in a while, but not nearly enough to make the impact that we all want to see. To those of you who are unaware of what I'm talking about, check the image below:

These reports will be handled by moderators and will be deleted as seen necessary. That's all there is to it. It seems fair enough to ask why we just don't read every single post every day. I'd ask that, myself. The answer is simple:
We're all adults, here. We, as the userbase of FAKKU, shouldn't have to be babysat to make sure we don't act like little kids and get into petty arguments. Being adults, we should be acting like such. How? Simply by following the rules. You have all been made well aware of what and what not to post in the forums. The moderation staff is not comprised of robots. We cannot find every post in violation of the rules.
We don't ask a lot here, but following the RULES would be the number one thing I'd like to see happen. We like to include our users into helping make FAKKU a better place, and this is part of it. Be proactive with helping make the community you like a better place. When you see an infraction of the rules, Report it. Simple as that. This mostly applies to the Random forum at present, but it also applies to every other forum to a lesser extreme.
You have all been given fair warning. I'd really like to see you all help make the forums a better place. We can't do it on our own. I hope that this, in conjunction with my "babysitting" more, will raise the quality around here back to where it used to be... at least to the point where we can be self-sufficient without these kinds of topics.
Topic is open for discussion and suggestions.

I endorse this; I feel that the standard of quality has been steadily declining, and would like to see the forums return to their former glory.

I agree. We need to make the forums less reposts and more quality posts of communication between the users and sharing of opinions and thoughts. Once a topic has been made, we should try not to make another topic just because the thread is not what EXACTLY what you wanted to ask. I mean the threads go off-topic as it is. A little stray from the original topic but still relating is just fine.

Though I haven't been the best example of what I'm about to say, I'd like to see some of the more thought-out posts/topics of my lurking times return.
I find far too many new topics for things that already exist. People need to look back a couple of pages or check the masterlists if they are availible. Another thing is, too many threads are caught up in personal conflicts and derail from the original purpose of the thread.

As important that the quality of the posts are i think the steady declining "quality" of Fakku's members is something that needs to be dealt with as well.
Trolls roam free, open harassment in threads, members insulting each other, and being a generic E-asshole seems to be the latest trend around here.
^This rule might as well not exist as it is now.

The one reason I've stayed with Fakku over the years is because of the non-censorious attitude that has been given towards the site. Okay wait, I lied. I stayed because of #FAKKU as well. But that's not the point. I enjoyed it a few years back when the user-base was smaller, simply because I could go to almost any thread I chose, and follow a usually lengthy discussion of a topic that made sense, and didn't trail off to the point of no return.
Though it's great to see more and more people around, who express their thoughts and opinions, it's not great to see unrelated crap in threads that don't even matter, unless it's in IB, which is were unrelated crap in threads that don't even matter should be. Also, I'm tired of seeing people getting bashed in IB, because they made a thread which is unrelated, filled with crap, and doesn't even matter, it's what IB is for, and how IB should be, if you're bashing someone in IB for a useless or pointless thread, that fits into my category of trolling. Long story short however, people need to keep unrelated crap in threads that don't even matter, in the Unrelated crap and threads that don't even matter section, and we should all know what that is.
I'd be glad to see a little more moderation in the boards that matter. Serious discussion has been fine so far, but I've gone into Random too many times to see people posting in threads with a topic and point with unrelated crap that belongs in a thread that doesn't even matter.
In other words. People need to know to keep the crap, unrelated crap, and otherwise shitstorm crap, in the appropriate board. And to post the right things in the right topic. I don't see a problem with old topics being brought up(as long as it's a topic a month or more old) because there's always more people coming into Fakku, and it's always nice to see their opinions and thoughts.
New users and old users alike need to (re)read the rules, and think twice about what thread their posting in.

Well I've always tried to lead (from the back?) by example but I'm sure I go do dumb things often enough. But it's become clear with things like the discussion about post amount in the Hime thread that a lot of newer users have a very different idea of what they think the forums should be like than the rest of us. I just hope they'll listen to you Nikon.

Unfortunately, I do agree with this topic, the forums are much worse than when I joined; there is nothing more that I could ask for in a forum than for it to have interesting, informative and/or well-thought out threads and posts with some laughs along the way (barring for example, silliness in IB, there's always a place for that). However, although I don't expect intelligence or sophisticated responses, especially online, the level of idiocy and general fail still astounds me. But sadly, the fact that is is there doesn't surprise me anymore.

Here, KLoWn makes a good point: this rule is flouted so much by so many countless users of all kinds that it's almost like breathing to them. In one example I came across, I pointed out that someone's post was just an insult with no evidence. You can guess what happened, and no, they did not write more than 10 words in their response. Yet again, the lack of manners or adherence to the rules just isn't surprising anymore.
Extra moderation is welcome, but a caveat comes with it. What people consider as against the rules differs, in terms of their interpretation of it, and mods would have an ever-increasing workload before them to ensure all decisions are fair and equal, not that it isn't massive now, leading to compounding pressure to add more mods. More mods would be fine if not for the fact that some people just do not realize the magnitude of the responsibilities and ethical codes they have to stand by, or worse, they just ignore them. There are just some users I would never want or even begrudgingly agree to their being moderators and I hope that day never comes.

this much better than the first one... the "report" button is there for members to use in case the thread is meaningless... plus it makes the job of our Admins easier that pointing out worthless threads by themselves... cooperation is still the best...

I would like to note that some of the drop in quality can be somewhat attributed to the admin staff itself. I'm not pointing fingers and I'm certainly not saying that they aren't doing their jobs, but many times in the past, I noticed that spam/trolling posts made by certain members would be completely overlooked by the admin staff, and so they continue being the pricks and idiots they were. For example, we ignored (tried to, then tried banning him, then accepted him) FreeNadia, and while his posts of late have indeed increased in quality, how many posts do you go back and find that they aren't spam? It's a case where the userbase and admin staff just kinda blew it off, and while this has nothing to do with the amount of noobs on FAKKU!, it certainly set an example for later trolls. What KloWn and Arren mentioned only serve to reinforce my point. User lollollol12 was an example of blatant racism, which took more than a couple of weeks to curb his racist posts due to Raze's timely interference. Things like this shouldn't take that long to respond, and in the meantime the forums deteriorate a little more. (It may seem I have a personal problem with lollollol12, but no matter what angle you look at it, he's broken several rules at FAKKU!, including the one where TYPING IN CAPS is frowned upon and not allowed.)
As far as what Nikon mentioned, he's totally right and people shouldn't be afraid to report threads or users. I use it whenever I need to, and sometimes it's quite often that I report more than once a day, which is bad enough. I'm only hoping that the admin staff and userbase can adhere to the rules more strictly, and that the admin staff should have no qualms in bringing down the hammer whatsoever. As much as the admin staff can control it, the userbase also has a responsibility to the health of the forums itself.
And another thing: personal beef with a user should never be brought out into the forums unless PMing the user or the admin staff about the user doesn't work. Things are better left to private than public. I hope this will ease Gambler's worries about user tension.

If I expect everybody else to follow the rules, I have to do so myself too. However, it's not just that... it's that some of us just have not/do not have the time to constantly watch over the forums all time time, giving us less presence and interaction on the forums. I can't say that will change much because I don't know if it will. I can say we will try, though.

I DO NOT KNOW ANY ACTIVE POSTERS ON FAKKU FORUMS THAT GOES BY THAT NAME.
I DO KNOW A GUY WITH A VERY SIMILAR NAME, THOUGH!
ANYWAYS, MY OPINION TO THIS THREAD IS THAT THE QUALITY OF POSTS HAVE DEFINITELY BEEN GOING UP AND I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU GUYS ARE TALKING ABOUT

@Nikon: Fair enough; we're only human.
Additions to the mod team can be a solution, but I think we should wait and see if things stay status quo or go up or down. If the quality keeps decreasing, increase the number of mods whenever necessary.

I, for one, think that random is in need of its own specific mod, rather than leaving it up to the admins and the global mods.

@lollollol12: sorry for mispelling your name... it's easy to forget a "l" here and there. But in any case, I was using you as an example, but there was no malice behind my intent I assure you. However, rules need to be followed, or else this site will turn to 4chan chaos and bullshit.
@TMS: It's possible that Random needs it's own moderator, but the same thing could be said for IB section. Though in this case, I think we should leave it to the global mods and go from there.

I hope you guys are joking because that was not funny in the least bit. This is a rather serious topic, not for antics.
edit: now that I think about it, it's crap like this ^ that the forums are lowering in quality because people seem not to understand that there is a time and place for everything.

Agreed. This is serious afterall, and a good majority of us have all done something stupid to prove that we couldn't be trusted with that. Now that I think about, about no one who frequents Random wouldn't be qualified for the job.

I looked at some of the old random posts from 2008, and there was more content there. I lol'd hard when I saw the replicas of Raze's photshpped blurred out face. Since I can't change others I'll just change myself. Other than IB I'll try not to spam images and youtube videos, also I'll try to interact more with the other users on the forums.
