wow so much people do tae kwan do here.....Its very popular so not surprising, that, Karate, and Kung fu. Mixed martial arts stuff is growing popular nowadays though, Muay Thai, BJJ, etc. They are popping up all over the place now.
When I was little all I saw were Kung fu, Karate and Tae Kwon Do places. Now bunch of other stuff is popping up. I have a capoerira (sp?) place across the street from me, all I hear is drumming.

I've done karate for 8 - 10 years, I managed to get to 2 kyu (2 grades from black belt)
I've also been doing a Korean sword style for 3 or 4 months now, Currently at Yellow III, I think.

WTF Taekwondo for 2,5 years - Blue belt
Basic Juijutsu - Yellow belt
Am interested in Kase Ha-ryu karate and sanshou, since they don't have a Taekwondo dojang where I live right now. So I'm guessing one of those will be what I practice next ^^)

Hapkido, Judo and Muy Thai. I have not practice Hapkido and judo since I was 24 (over 10 years ago) and Muy Thai two years ago when the instructor moved.
Studies for my masters and PhD and continue with my favorite sport all are time consuming during that period.

Muay Thai 4 years, considering professional career (as if!)
No seriously I don't want to go pro, random spars are good enough

Pro matches look brutal. My shin would snap.

When I get home from Muay Thai this post is getting a video response, just throwing that out there.
Also, to keep this railed: After I get my orange sash I was going to try and go amateur, pro is for people who like pain.

Well, I got into a Wushu club on high school. Before that I practiced Tai Chi while was still in middle school.
Only had the basic ideas of it, but it gives me solid foundation to mastering martial arts such as Kung Fu and Karate-do

so far MMA is the best effective when it comes to street fight. especially against mobs. in some case of mobs is better if you grab any weapon. even broomstick is effective than barehanded.
consecutively involved on mobs fight or tawuran in indonesian 5 times with no significant scar.
tips on survive mobs.
- dont gets surrounded
- wear some protection but don't too heavy. helmet is crucial. your everyday motorcycle helmet is enough.
- always fight with backups. or in group, it help you not to got back attack

I've heard from a small handful of people in martial arts and few people not in martial arts say this bad for your joints. But than again I do shin, elbow, and fist conditioning and that just strikes me as not good in the long run.
