Microsoft KIN
0
Yes, I'm starting a Microsoft thread.

Today, Microsoft introduced their Mobile Phone, the KIN, at a press conference.
It can't run any third party applications, and doesn't even come with a Calendar. The only thing it can do beside making calls is update your Facebook and Twitter status. Because of that, Microsoft calls it a "social phone". However, contradictory to its name, it doesn't come with any Instant Messaging apps. Also, it takes 15 minutes for any status updates to show up on the phone since it doesn't support Multitasking or Push Notifications.
Unsurprisingly, the KIN has been much more well received at Tech Blogs all over the Internet in comparison to the any Apple products released in the last 10 years. All you need to do is to go to any Engadget Apple article, and compare the comments to any KIN article comments. You will see that the KIN is praised much higher than the iPhone 3GS. Apple is just naturally hated, and this is proof.
With no support for other applications, there is no further potential to explore. It will be releasing this May, and it will obviously sell the same number of units as the amount of diehard Microsoft fanboys in the World. The new iPhone is stated to land this June or July, although this is trivial since the 2007 iPhone can run circles around this piece of rubbish.

Is it just me who thinks that phone looks really CRUSTY.
Microsoft can exceed any company in the world when it comes to Computers and Gaming Console, but they are one of the worst with phones and music players.

I was beginning to wonder, ImperialX starting a Microsoft praise thread? Can't be.
It's ironic Imperial because your accusations your trying to make of MS are exactly what Apple have been doing for years with their products. Milking their fan base for money with pointless consumerism. Point and case with the Ipad.
Also GoodDay, you have no idea what your talking about. The Zune is a far far superior music player than the Itouch will ever be. Why? For one it can support other lossless apart from AAC. Two it has one of the best UI's i have ever seen, much better than the Itouch. Three, the actual sound chip in the Zune is top class and is one of the very best in the industry. Four, the Zune music marketplace is a way better system than the Itunes store ever was with it's features and price.

Seriously, that's a phone? It looks like a cheap excuse of one..
Since it can't do much else than call, I would say it looks like an expensive excuse for one (poor money/value ratio)

Who knows it might be good don't be all so close minded just because it comes from Microsoft.
The interface sort of reminds me of the 360 interface tho.

I think this phone is more or less for the sons and daughters of parents who want their kids to have decent, but limited phones. It just appears like the phone has kids in mind, with is black, white, and green hue, as well as its emphasis on social networking.
It's not like you are going to buy an iPhone for your 12 year old daughter....

Point and case with the Ipad.As I said before, I don't expect most of this community to be able to comprehend the iPad for what it truly is for another year or so when the Tablet form factor really takes off because of it. Let's keep the iPad out of public threads and keep it to PMs, like I asked for before.

Sorry to put it this blunt, but the App ecosystem on the Zune is absolutely pathetic. It's a multimedia player, nothing more. It's pretty good at that, especially with Tegra chip and the OLED display. Definitely prettier than the iPod touch, but seriously, 95% of buyers would prefer an iPod touch simply because there are 150000 apps that can pretty much do anything you can think of, plus they're about the same price. The choice is obvious.

Yeah, that's the only market I can see for this thing as well, but the problem is, would they want this over an iPod touch, especially when most of them already have decent dumbphones? Dumbphone + iPod touch can do a lot more than this KIN. At least I can use Facebook Chat on my iPod touch. This thing calls itself a "Social Phone", but it can't even do IM.
Also, the iPod touch is $199. I'd like to see the KIN beat that.

If it is jailbroken, have those earphones with attached microphone, and have wifi, it can definitely make calls

Comparing a phone to a music player is stupid. Of course the phone will cost more, since it'll have monthly fees and and stuff.
Also, you said to leave out the ipad, but right after that, you mentioned it again. I don't need to know that you're posting from your ipad. How long does it take to type these messages anyway?

Imperial, can you not see past the propaganda of Apple and see that the Ipad is just an act of Apple's greedy consumerism!?
The Ipad is using notebook technology that was available 3 years ago. You can argue that it has apps, but that's all that is has to offer compared to other tablet products. And those apps by far do not justify the price in any sort of way shape or form, especially since the Ipad doesn't have a lot of the features you expect from a tablet this day and age. Can you please state your reasons as why you would even conceive that the Ipad is a revolutionary product, because id like to hear you're reasoning for them.
Now let me introduce you to an actual tablet that is actually revolutionary and innovative.
The Lenovo U1 Hybrid.
And your comment about the 95% of people would prefer the Touch over the Zune is sure a bold statement. A statement you should have some evidence to back it up no?
Also let me again say, why do people buy a multimedia player first and foremost? For music. Games and videos come as an entree on a MMP. And by far, the Zune has a far better music distribution system and music support than the Touch.
Im not saying that most people would buy the Zune over the Touch, im just saying, in terms of being a music player, the Zune is better than the Touch and people should be buying it over the Touch for that purpose.

I did say Dumbphone + iPod touch. And M$ never revealed its price. It probably won't be very expensive considering that smartphones are so cheap nowadays.

We're both on the same track here. There's nothing to argue about. Also, this thread is about the KIN. Since we both agree that the Zune HD is a superior player, and the iPod touch is more popular, let's get back on topic, shall we? :D

If Microsoft thinks this 'phone' will get them anywhere, they're dead wrong. Seriously, I'm pretty sure my free LG Neon can beat it in terms of what it can do.
I guess I'll have to stop saying Apple will never out-do Microsoft, as Microsoft has yet to make a phone that can challenge the iPhone.
Microsoft, I am dissapoint.
